Liopropoma carmabi

It's not a typo. They're usually around 1k U.S I believe.

This is the first one I've seen for sale locally since I've been in the hobby. =)

When these first became available 2 were sold in the US for $3100 each definitely have come down in price

too expensive for a guy like me but i know a fella here that has one and it is a really nice looking fish. it's crazy to think that in this hobby that probably doesn't even top 10 in terms of expense.

1500 for a fish that you might see once every week at night time....too rich for my blood.

Those prices are insane! I start sweating when I pay $50+ for fish or corals.

I seen candy basslets on divers den last year going for $699 us so this seems steep but I guess they could have jumped up in price . Not really a $1500 fish IMO

Yeah, I've never seen them at such a high price in Canada. Especially considering our dollar is so much better right now than it has been.

They're pretty cryptic, but they're not that bad! Have you seen one in person? They are IMO one of the most beautiful reef fish in the ocean. Earlei Fairy Wrasse have similar coloration (similar price too haha), but not quite as bright. Nice option for a stripey fish though. :)

they are very cool fish you end up seeing them cruising through the rocks quit a bit , they just aren't the up at the front of the tank type . Wouldn't mind having one but I like small ornamental shrimp more ie bumble bee / anemone shrimp .

Worth every penny :) But I didn't pay that much. Mine is out all day and isn't scared of much.

I was hoping you'd chime in. :)

I just went and saw a Candy Basslet today (in a client's tank). It's more cryptic than Scythanith's, but still just as beautiful.

I recently asked Colby to order me a Candy Basslet, and after seeing J&L's pricing I'm interested to see what the cost will be. :D

They're not as shy as some of the other Liopropoma species. I've sold a few of these and they're pretty consistently showy.

I went by J&L's earlier in the week. Apparently they got 2 in one for a client (Kengeroo I am guessing) and one to sell. He is in a tank by himself and he is one friendly fish. Might be worth it at a quarter the price.

I told them I would pay that if they gave me a ten year guarantee. Would be a terrible thing to come home and find him on the floor.

I've googled that 2 can get along,,, but only if introduced at the same time...

That's a bunk list though. I could come up with 10 fish more expensive than the Candy Basslet without including any in the video. Hehe. Look at rare wrasses alone...there are dozens over $1000.

These are all over $1000:
Earlei Fairy Wrasse Male
Bell's Flasher Wrasse Male
Femininus Wrasse (i think this one was in the vid)
Claire's Fairy Wrasse
Lennardi Tamarin Wrasse
Peliciers Perchlet
Gem Tang
Joculator Angelfish
Crosshatch Trigger Male
Sunrise Hogfish

I've never seen a Candy Basslet over $1000 either...until now. :D

Met a guy a Macna who can get these fish landed in Los Angeles for $150. 🙊

We spoke at length about it, because of this thread.

Don't ask me for his contact info because I'm not sharing. Lol.

I don't doubt it, but let's compare apples.

Probably $150 US for starters, and if he's buying from a wholesaler he needs to buy enough to fill a box, so probably at least eight of them, maybe more. Plus shipping on top, international air likely $150 or so.

Won't be any Candy Basslets for awhile now because of Hurricane Irma.

Honestly though, health is more important than price to me. The one at J&L looks fat and happy in the pic.

In the scheme of things thats not even expensive in the pet industry.
Rare Arowanas will go for way more, certain species of parrots cost way more.
Pedigreed show dogs can go for more than that. People that want the rare, different or collectible will always be willing to pay the price.

You can also find them for 2k in Canada, but all in importing one yourself would be less as well.

I've got no problem with some fish being worth $3500. I've seen some angels in that price range. Out of my budget but some fish are expensive for a variety of reasons. My issue with this is its way way way above retail cost. Even before the recent gem tang price drop the rare times I saw them in Lfs they were $2200-2500. Granted if you can afford 2500 you can afford 3500 when it comes to expensive fish but this just seems like gouging.

Just because that's what they are asking didn't mean that's what tell take. Especially if you haven't special ordered it. I made a fair offer on the candy basselet and the accepted. So we font always have to fell gouged. Just because you can afford it dosnt mean paying too much is okay.

Oh I don't know about that, some birds are exceptionally hard to keep, and some are so sensitive they'll drop dead at the slightest fright.
Not to mention most species are on the cites list to various degrees so you need import permits, export permits, vet checks before and after entering the country, QT for 30 days etc, etc. Costs certainly add up when all is said and done.
