Having wanted a nice sized reef tank since the day i started my first 10g nano about 3 years ago, my big tank is starting to come together.

I had gotten about half way to my big tank with a 90g in our living room, set up just after we moved into our new place about 5 months ago. Due to space limitations, and my **** poor finishing carpentry skills, i couldnt do up the stand and canopy as well as i would have liked for being the center of attention in the living room.

Down came the 90, and a trip to calgary produced a 150g (48x24x30) tank to fit perfectly in an empty slot in the freshwater growout racks. Now gone were the days of the wife and friends asking "why is there a tank in every room of the house?". Also cuts down on the maintenance having it near all the water change equipment and sw barrels.

so now...it begins...again

An oasis of saltwater in a sea of freshwater

Didnt need the overflow, too cheap to cut glass just for it, 40 cent tile works just as well

http://www.canreef.com/photopost/data/500/1223capped_overflow-med.JPG

Couple of batches of salt, and about half the rock moved over at 1am

http://www.canreef.com/photopost/data/500/12232_fills_and_half_the_rock-med.JPG

2 hours later, didnt like how it was lookin...wasnt coming together smoothly. Time to call in a little help

Over pops AndyL, after much discussion, beer, and swearing...we have a start

http://www.canreef.com/photopost/data/500/1223Almost_there1-med.JPG

And the next day, after about another hour of stacking, hiding cords and powerheads, its finished...for now...

Then the remainder of the aragonite was added, so ill be able to enjoy the tank again in a week or so when the dust clears. more pics then

How did you get the rock to stay like that?

I'll answer this one for josh :)

With much cursing and swearing, a few landslides and about 8 hours of fiddling to get it to fit "just right". No epoxy or CA used - just a whole lotta patience and wiggling and swapping rocks around to find what fit better.

Got some goodies during the calgary trip

First up is a Flasher Wrasse...one of my favorite fish. Thanks Albert!

A little red open brain, been looking for a nice specimen for a long time
http://www.canreef.com/photopost/data/500/1223Little_Red_Brain-med.JPG

And the whole tank after a scraping...only got a very small part of the cleanup crew from the AquariaCanada order. J&L will be filling up the rest very shortly. From a different angle by request (harrasment is more like it)
http://www.canreef.com/photopost/data/500/1223Tankwide_02-01-05-med.JPG

Rusty...most of the peices are about fist size up to large canteloupe. I have a small boulder weighing around 20-25lbs that just wouldnt fit because of the clearance under the tank above, otherwise they're all relatively small pieces.

More pics coming tomorrow. Got a beautiful pair of mandarins in the 150 i couldnt get a good pic of tonight.

and i finally managed to find a nice little lunare wrasse, the fish that got me into SW to begin with. Pics of him to come tomorrow as well from the 72g pred tank.

Get that lunar wrasse out of their they arnt reef safe. Plus they get realy aggressive. A link to back me up here:
http://www.thatpetplace.com/LiveFish/Products/KW/WRASSE@,SFISH/Class/Saltwater+Wrasse/T1/F91+0007+0197/Detail.aspx

Nice tank though has alot of potential. I suggest a nice pair of White Stripe maroons with a green anemone to offset the colours.

Darn that looks good - not quite what I had pictured when we were stacking; but it does look good! (I envisioned a bit more of an area between the 2 walls that was hidden by the center pillar). But the right hand pod pile really balances it - I love it!

Can't wait to see as it progresses.

Hrm... I see a powerhead on the left - just a temporary move or was it required?

Ryan, do you read before you post? If you want to post suggestions and make yourself feel more important, you can at least pay a little more attention to the subject and make your suggestions relavent.

Muck, ive got a fridge full come on over

Andy, i moved those two top powerheads around to redirect flow. ive gotta bury the left back into the rockwork yet. The gsp frag i got from Deb was getting blown around a bit too much from the current going down the sides and right onto the frag.

Snaggle should be along any minute to remind me of it

It was nuts, about right for edmonton prices though. Missed the ones at oceans. Was kinda overwhelmed that day

Im coming down on the 19th/20th again Albert, better be ready
