Stay tuned for a review of the new Coral Box Quiet Pump coming in.

This [will be replacing my] Jebao wave maker pumps and I will be comparing it with my Jebao RW-8 and Vortech MP10 in my 65 Gallon!

It's being shipped to me now .

Cheers,

Coral Box Quiet Pump

Available Models:
QP-5 (1300GPH)
QP-9 (2340GPH)
QP-16 (4160GPH)

My Model: QP-9
QP-9 Specs:
2340GPH
23W
10.5mm x 8mm x 7.5mm
5 Different Wave patterns

Controls:
Mode, Frequency, Speed, Feed mode.

Unboxing - First impressions: Very similar to the Jebao RW-8 pump. That I used. Evidently has a more ‘boxy’ appearance to it, which (to me) resembles something similar to the wet side of a Ecotech MP40. It has a relatively soft and flexible cable that was easy to manipulate. The magnet is strong as expected.

The pump moves in every direction except is restricted to be turned towards the cable: (Pic to come)

Review of the modes and sound in the aquarium and comparing with the Ecotech Vortech MP10 to come (Going to scrape the glass first ).

Looking forward to the results. We could use more in depth reviews here. Thanks for adding to the forum.

Interesting they are advertised these as "designed in Germany".

I have been happy with the previous models. I even still have one WP 40 running. Eventually I'll replace it with one of these.

Coral Box and Jebao are two different brands. Coral box was brought about by the owner of Fish-Street (who has also helped develop the RW's).

They seem to be decent pumps. We have been testing 3 for a few months now and so far so good. Once our field tests are complete we will evaluate them and start selling them if they pass (i'm sure they will)

Once we do start, we will sell both the Jebao and Coral Box since they ARE NOT "successors"

Quick picture update of the pump angle/restrictions I was referring to.

It's also just shy of 90 degrees pointing in the other direction:

While I was at it, I took some comparison shots with the RW-8. Relatively the same dimension wise, however I could imagine the QP-9 is marginally bigger due to it's shape.

There is an audible sound from the pump, however, without testing it, I believe it is quieter than my MP10. I tried taking video of the pump's operations earlier, with no luck of registering the sound. To better test the sound, I was thinking of downloading the a sound meter for my phone and recording that this weekend. Any suggestions.

Also, please let me know of anything you are interested in my testing or demonstrating with the pump. I hope to test all settings this weekend.

Basically with these powerheads the question is, are you going to run them with an external controller (apex, GHL, etc)? If yes, stick with the Jebao RW/SW series. If you're going to run stand-alone, these are slightly better quality pumps with a lower sound profile, and far better controllers.

The problem for external control arises with requiring an Aqualink A1 control module per pump, due to hardware changes or should I say removal inside the pump head. That's $100 CAD added to the cost of every pump for external controller support, sort of like the Maxspect gyre situation.

Surprised if he is still around this forum. Hasn't posted in 2 years. I myself would love to hear somebody who has experienced these pumps and what their thoughts are.

I have been running a set for almost 2 years. They were suplimental to my mp40s but a couple weeks ago both my old mp40s died for different reasons. The pump themselves are pretty decent. The drivers not so much. If left on wave mode the pumps sometimes stop and forget to start. If a power outage happens they revert to constant flow vs whichever setting they were left on. For the price paid i am not complaining but i would not want to be off working on the road and relying on them.
