well I suppose it would be fitting to put up some pics and descriptions so people will recognize when a coral is dead.

this pic is a quick one of the tank its self this morning.

this is my chocolate brown cap with purple polyps

from bottom left working clockwise.. blue Milli (bottom left corner) beautiful light purple acro with deep purple polyps, deep pink birds nest, and my amazing deep purple acro formerly known as "but ugly"

ok in this pic the two birds nest in the middle that I think are going to make it.. the one in the for ground is a tan birds nest from Emily and the one in the background is the pink one that was behind my rock work and never got placed into the tank of death.

here is the big pink/orange cap I had

the next two pics are of the corals I took out last night the fist is a large popcorn bowl and the second is a 20 gal bucket

the next two shot are the look of the tank with its new bare bottom. I still might do some redecorating now that I don't have to worry about moving corals around

thats a really sad thing to c, would never wish that upon anyone, good luck with your new begining, any idea on what caused the tank of death so it does not happen to others???

Yes, my condolences. I'd say your meltdown would be worse to take than my own a few weeks ago, because at least my corals and inverts were unaffected; but losing near all my fish all at once was exceptionally difficult to take. So I know what you're feeling right now. I'm very sorry for your losses.

basicly a failed heater caused it all. not a bad heater brand as it has been un use for over 2 years, just bad luck.

what happened there? I missed it while I was in San Deigo, and I wasn't about to read 400 post friday night when I got home. Good thing is I am posted ashore now for two years so no trips for a while.

Welcome back home then (at least .. ?? Sorry that it's crummy circumstances to start it off.)

There are some details in this thread: http://www.canreef.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=12213

But basically what happened was one of my tanks started to leak, so I decided to move everything in it into a new tank (even a slow leak, you can't really live with that). My ritteri anemone however didn't care so much for being moved and (at least as near as I can figure) released something into the water which caused the fish to suffocate to death. Maybe it's something as (seemingly) benign as slime, which coated their gills, and affected their ability to breathe. By the time I realized the fish were having difficulties it was too late to save them. Although I was able to save my mandarin by placing him into a different tank, and my clownfish was unaffected throughout the whole ordeal.

I feel so stupid because I'd seen this phenomenon before, only at the time missed the mark in thinking what it was (when I moved earlier this year all the fish in that particular tank, except the clownfish, died in the hours following the move .. at the time I thought it was just stress from the move itself). I guess just because an anemone doesn't eat a fish, doesn't mean it can't kill a fish. Of course I don't know for 100% sure that's what it was, but it seems a plausible theory.

...
Anyhow, if you rebuild, you're welcome to any frags from my tank. We can figure out a way to ship 'em or something.

Crappy deal Steve, I'd give you some frags if I had a tank!

actualy it is going good, amonia is down to trace now so I can start adding things this weekend. It is good to have fully cured rock when something like this happens.. it makes the recovery so much faster.
