Getting back into the hobby after about 8 years out.....Thought I would start small.....Wow a lot has changed in the years.
Equipment:
IM Nuvo Fusion 40g
Eheim 100w Heater
hydor 425 circulation pump
Ecotech MP10
Maxspect Ehereal Lighting
25 pounds live sand
30 pounds of live rock
Running 2 filter socks at the moment , waiting for the media racks to come in.
Any suggestions on what I should run in the racks? Also a suggestion on a skimmer......It needs a pretty small footprint for the skimmer. Pics are a little cloudy as I just added the rock
Any and all suggestions or comments are welcome , Thanx in advance

Yeah lots has changed! Everyone uses dry rock these days... :( Nice to see "old school" live rock! That's all I'll ever use in my own tanks too. :)

I always liked the IM tanks. Got a Nuvo 20 myself.

For the baskets, run filter floss, chemipure, and purigen in that order.

Since it's a dual chamber return, it's up to you what to run on the other side.

Noticed lots of evaporation in these tanks so I also prurchased a Tunze Osmolator 3155 .....Now to patiently wait for the cycle.....I Picked up some Chemipure elite and purigen for when the cycle is complete

Just set up a nuvo 10. Liking it so far. Cycled in two weeks with live rock. I run the ghost skimmer from IM and it seems to work well for the short period it has been running.

Nice coverage and profile on that Ethereal unit!

Should post your system on nano-reef, lots of IM owners if you're looking for ideas. For a skimmer you might want to look into the Tunze 9004, I know it's popular with many of the 40 builds there.

Bloom probably won't last long. I've read the tank has no use for lights during a cycle, and they increase likelihood of issues such as this and algae. But there are benefits to diatom blooms as well. I left mine off unil it was done.

Well , a few weeks into the cycle now...used fully cured live rock and some media from another tank......For the last 3 days my levels have been sitting at
Ammonia : 0
Nitrite : 0
Nitrate : 5PPM
PH : 8.2 to 8.4.... Colors so close on test kit hard for my eyes to tell hahhaha
Using API saltwater Master kit
Still have a Diatom bloom and starting to turn To green Hair Algae I think......Is this normal or could something be off??? I also hate filter socks and Ordered 2 InTank media racks.......I don't like the IM ghost Skimmer but found The CadLights PLS 50 Elite skimmer that will fit in that chamber.....Anyone used Cad Lights skimmers before????? I heard algae blooms are close to the end of the cycle.....Is this true??? will I be able to slowly add a cleanup crew soon??? I want to do this right so I appreciate the answers and advice

I used a cadlight pls-100, was a little work horse. Little sensitive to set but once it was set, it was great. I added an air valve to the air intake line to help fine tune even more.

Add some pure ammonia to get a positive reading on your test kit and see if it goes down.

If it does, you're cycled.

Diatom blooms are typical when nearing the end of a cycle but also in new tanks in general. Be prepared for new-ugly-tank-syndrome for a couple months.
