Here we are. I lost my 180 so I'm starting again from scratch. Almost...I managed by some miracle to save almost all of the equipment and fish from the 180.
My new tank is going to be 72x30x24tall. I also have a new custom 120 gallon sump in the works as well. This is going to be a slow build as I'm going to set up and cycle the new system while my temporary system is still running. Lots to plan and lots to purchase but its in the works:biggrin:

I'm going to try to find the time on Sunday to stop by Concept and see the new glass boxes :)

I found some time to stop by Concept today. Was thinking of taking a couple pics but they have a lot of tank builds on the go so I didn't bother. I have to say the tank is looking spectacular. Beveled edges, fully polished. And it's HUGE! I've never seen a 120 gal sump in person. I have now:eek:

Picked up the stand on Sunday. Shiny like car paint and perfectly square. I'm impressed. Now to collect the tank and sump this weekend. I can't wait! Pics to come soon.

I'm on the same boat as you, building a 220G, but with a 100G sump.

You should do 30" tall!

brotherd

Almost did. But then I'd want 72x30x30. I had a hard enough time with my original tank at 24 deep! I'm definitely going with some of what I liked and didn't. Aquascape, everything.

Had to work half a day today which gave me just enough time to make 2 trips to Concept to pick up the tank and sump. Um..holy heavy! I'll post pics tomorrow after I get it on the stand. Seems like twice as big and heavy as my 180 was. Or I'm just tired

Sorry folks. No progress today. Football instead :)

Yes I did drop the ball. I had a set back again. There won't be anything to share for quite some time. Peace.

I doubt that will stop us from asking :D

Tank is now on the stand with help from a couple of neighbors. That's all I have managed to accomplish so far.

Nice, what size bulkheads are your returns?

I called these guys for a quote for a 220G, and they wanted nearly 2g's for a 220G with center braces. Quite expensive IMO.

Have you found an economical alternative?

The holes in the overflow accept 1.5 " bulkheads. I can't speak to whether or not it is expensive. This is the largest tank I've ever had. Polished and beveled edges, 15 mm glass. Is it Elos perfect? No. Am I happy with my purchase? Yes. Probably another month before I get it wet though

Tank looks slick!

I'll be ordering my tank soon... similar to yours.
Well boxing week sales will be coming up for you to pick up whatever odds and ends you still need! :p

Nice looking tank.

When you figure the cost of labour and glass and other materials, not that expensive.

Elos and Red Sea look for a LOT more $ per gallon than a local built tank. As said, is it Elos/Red Sea perfect? No, but you are not paying for that level of perfection.

The hook for me was that there is no box inside the tank. The external overflow is huge. There is a small relief above each bank of teeth that would act as a 4 foot long weir should the teeth get blocked or overwhelmed. I can't imagine that scenario but that extra feature is there.

I wish there was such a thing as purchasing time at a boxing day sale. I would buy a week of time so I could get this going and not lose any world time.

Yup, pm me for info, he's located in Edmonton.

That is a nice overflow, I ended up with the Synergy Reef overflow, came out pricey but worth it IMO. Are you going to run 1.5" drains from your overflow as well?

brotherd
12-18-2016, 01:47 AM
I like the Synergy as well. And the plan is to run the inch and a half drains. If I find that the Beananimal is unstable with my return pump being in the basement I may reduce the full syphon drain to 1".
