I have a few of these little dudes "spawning"? in my tank. They look like snails, and they cruise around like snails as well.

Can anyone tell me whether these are okay or not? Or should I try to get rid of em? I think they're harmless, but have no idea what they are.

Any ideas?

Oh and I forgot to mention that these little guys are like 2-3mm in length, really really small.

Ditto. I got a few on some LR & they don't seem to harm anything. Don't know name though.

Same. No reason to suspect them of anything. No way I'm going to go hunting for the name though.

The nick name for the snail is "catseye". I can't remember the actual name. They grow to about 2" - 2 1/2" . When they get bigger they can sure move fast. Well fast for a snail that is  I found one in my tank one day and it blew me away at how fast he could move and at the size of him. I know he came on some rock because I sure didn't put him in the tank. He never went on the glass just stayed on the rocks and never caused any damage that I saw.

HTH

I have hundreds in my reef tank. Never grows over 1/4" and seems to eat nothing but algea.

Sounds like a good hitchhiker then. It seems like they're multiplying though, I never knew how snails spawned, but I think it's happening in my tank.

Hey dirty,

I have a whole bunch of these snails as well and kept meaning to search for an ID as well. Your post got me to looking. It seems they are good snails to have. If you can build up an army of them, they seem to be pretty effective algae eaters...
