I'm a complete idiot when it comes to computers and my computer is messing up. Somehow the resolution is at the lowest setting and it is only giving me 16 colours, everytime i reset it and restart the computer, it goes back to the way it was.

obviously you have internet connection at 16 colors and it's not safe mode? try upgrading your video card drivers or reverting them from the first windows install...that usually works :D

Why would everything change? It was running fine 2 days ago. It is now set at 640 by 480 pixels and 16 colors ( It's not in safemode) and refuses to change

Ya it sounds like the Video drivers have been lost.
Try to reinstall the drivers
Also check in Device manager to ensure the video card that window thinks you have is the one you actually have

It's been a while since I worked with win 98 but if you go to "control Panel" there should be an icon for "System" that will open a window with a list of all the hardware you have. Look for Video Display Adapter. This will be your Video card. there will be a tab at the top called Drivers in there you can update your drivers

O.k the device manager was home . Is there something else I need to do besides push the update button because the computer said i already had the best video driver for the system

Oh by the way I really appreciate the help, thankyou

This should have told you what it was, or you can open your computer and read it off the actual board

New info., my kids said the sound went at the same time and when the computer starts up it says there is a bad command or file name. I think something got downloaded that shouldn't of. I have run avast antivirus but spyspotter won't run, I get a run time error 50003.
