Hey everyone,

Looking for some clear mesh to build a screen top for my new tank.

Hoping to find some locally before I order online

Please let me know if anyone has some available.

Thanks,

Joe

If you can't find any locally Reefsupplies.ca sells it at a pretty good price. 3'x7' is $15.95.

I use black tulle.

The stuff they make veils out of.

I found the white mesh way to reflective and white for my liking.

It was distracting when I looked at my tank.

I picked the tulle up from a fabric store

Its almost invisible (bit of a stretch lol) but you hardly see it.
Absolutely hated the white mesh that came with the kit from BRS

So I have encountered an issue

This fabric being so light decided to Waterloo it self (my water level is very high to the top)

I'm also spanning 5.5'

Wonder if the dyes used for that fabric will be of any issue with the tank if it ends up getting wet, etc?

I had that happen once as well.
I figured I hadn't made it tight enough.
Just re-stretch it a little tighter, its pretty tough stuff.
Try stretching it more across the shorter span.
After redoing it its been fine for more than a year now.

Pretty sure its not dyed but actually a black plastic mesh

If I stretch it to much then the sides bow in which is a pain. Need a little thin brace bar or something to keep it stretched outwards?

What about gluing an acrylic rod into the center after stretching the mesh? Could even be on the underside to help hold it up?

Never seen a tulle fabric bleed. Ive used coloured and plain mesh and tulle and what not from my mothers fabric cabinet for years as media bags. Including whatever colour thread in her sewing machine at the time to sew them together. Never had bleeding other associated issues.

What about something inside of the rails to stiffen it up and prevent bowing? Would have to be light and ridged

Little off topic but what are you using as clips so that the lid sits on the inside of your tank.

I got corners that have a lip on them. You can also use the little aftermarket glass clips

Where did you buy these from. My corners are flush so I have to have the entire lid sitting on the rim of the glass. Yours looms much better.

I bought a bunch off a guy who worked at a glass shop
