I'm surprised these are not all sold yet. These are the best option for getting rid of aptasia imo.

Thanks Jess.... They're doing a great job ridding my aptasia culture tank of aptasia!! :twised:

my worries is they are a walking grenade. into a pump/powerhead... release some sort of toxins on death... tank crash...

Hermit crabs won't mess with them , and they usually hide all day in the rockwork and come out at night.

They don't release any toxin at all , and I know that because the only thing these berghia eat is aptasia. So as soon as all the aptasia are gone these things die off. Once they start to really breed ive easily had 50-75 of them in my 100 gallon tank , which of course they all eventually died and caused no issues.
As far as flow goes , these suckers can really hold on to the glass or rock tightly. And the only time you usually will see them on the glass or near a powerhead , would be when they are clearly running out of aptasia on the rocks and they start exploring looking for food.
It is important when you first add these berghia , to do it during lights out if you can and let them go at the base of a rock or somewhere that they can easily grab onto and go hide (flow off)

As far as I know the only chemical berghia use for defence are nematocysts from the aptasia they consume. They store them in their certa (frills in the back) to deter predators. I have had a bunch die in the culture tank with no ill effects.
