LF: 100mm Canon EF lens for coral close up or equv

New to DSLR, I just got a T6S and would like a good lens for coral close up

If someone have a EF/EF-S lens to sell please PM

I went the cheap method.

Get a set of macro extension rings:

They reduce the focal length of any lens.

Through an inexpensive 50mm f/1.8 on them and your laughing.

How is the light with the extension tube?

How close can you get?

I can use the stocks lens but I need a minimum of 8-12 inch away or it won't focus.

I which they would make a "macro mode" like on compact camera, my Canon S90 can take picture less than 1 inch from subject.

Tamron 90mm is an excellent lens. I got a lot of advice on macro lenses from food photographers and they recommended this lens.

It's a lot cheaper than the canon 100mm and equal in performance (other than the focal length) maybe better

Might lose a stop. But you'll be shooting f4 - f8 so not a big deal.

You can get less than an inch away there are typically 3 rings so you can use combinations to get the focal length you want. I have lens against the glass or hovering just above the water.

Macro rings are a great inexpensive way to get into macro before you decide to go whole hog.
