Uggg I swear I live in the power out triangle. 3rd time and of course it has to happen while I have fish going through ttm. *sigh* So over it already.

You seriously need to invest in a generator or UPS battery back up system.

I have a back up, but it runs the main system not the QT system or the ttm system, just bad luck that the power outs happen when I'm doing QT or ttm :/

Ya maple ridge keeps getting hit hard. Last night my power stayed on but my roof didn't! got a crew up there fixing it now.

Hang in there, going through outbreaks sucks but it happens to us all. I lost all my livestock last year to a velvet outbreak. I let the system go fallow for 2 months and fired it back up and now I have a tank full of happy fish. Going through the re build was the worst ever.

I think its all Murphy's fault, of course the power out would happen the same day I picked up my tang at JL.

Ouch! Not fun hope they get it done before the next storm hits tonight.

Go hit up Costco champion generator like 4000watts for $300 and last I heard use Honda motors.
Run a lot of stuff on 4000 watts. Gotta keep the fridge n freezers cold

What Costco are you shopping at? 550 is the cheapest they have.

That bylaw isn't lifted for power outages?

Nope, cause you are disturbing your neighbours that are trying to sleep power out or not. They fine pretty heavily too.

A Honda generator is usually very quiet. If you had it running in a shed or garage and just make sure you don't gas yourself when you go fill it up, it should make virtually no noise that your neighbours can hear.

I just saw that J&L now stocks the AquaTop battery powered air pumps for $14.95. That's a really good price for insurance for your tanks. I'm going to go stock up on a few since I have six tanks (fw & sw), even though I have a small generator and a UPS backup. Just paranoid, although our power lines are buried so not [knock on wood] been affected by all these wind storms so far. I just like to be "OCD" prepared.

Wow, I think that's the "mild BC coast tax" you're paying right there. If there's an outage here at this time of year they let us run generators - besides which, it's a hell of a lot cheaper to pay the fines than repair all the frozen water lines! ;)

These are great, I have a few of these (got them at PetCetera years ago).

The Honda EU series generators are quite, used them before, your neighbors won't hear it.

Problem being they're quite a bit more money for something you hope to never use. I have seen them in use, and damn quiet, but big bucks.

I bought a couple of these
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-Fashion-Battery-Powered-Portable-Air-Pump-for-Aquarium-Fish-Tank/32557012682.html?spm=2114.01020208.3.30.l2PZ5L&ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_7,searchweb201644_0,sea rchweb201560_9
and 1 of these incase those blue ones were crap and this ones exactly like the petsmart ones that work well.
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/WSFS-Hot-DC-Battery-Aquarium-Fish-Tank-Oxygenation-Air-Pump-Air-Stone-Tube/32430810897.html

Both work awesome.
And MUCH cheaper then anything you can buy in store here. I bought some 7" bubble wands to go with them instead of the air stones so there is a wider surface area for the bubbles vs just 1 spot.

My Toyota Tacoma came with a 400w inverter.

All I do is open the garage door.
Start up the pick up and let it idol.
Run an extension cord to a power bar near the tank.
Plug in my low wattage AMP Master circulation pump
Plug in a Tunze water pump to each tank

Run it for approx 15 minutes every 3 to 4 hours and you should be fine.

My buddy bought one in the summer for camping from Costco I helped him carry it out for $299...... Jacked up prices for winter I guess

Nice. For that price, I'd buy one today. But cheapest they have now is 550ish and tax. Since I've never had a loss of power for more than an hour in 20 years, hard to spend that kind of money.

Just a couple short power blips on Sunday, despite the raging storm out there.

But my Shaw internet, TV and phone were down all day Mon and just came up this afternoon (Tues). This is the 2nd multi day Shaw outage in 6 months (while the power was up). Not sure what their excuse is, but next time Telus offers me a good promotion, I will seriously look at it.

I would phone shaw and complain
I have done that and they gave me a day's cost back on the monthly bill

NOOOOOO telus is beyond terrible
i cant wait until my contract is up. Ive already told them to cancel the day the 3 year is done dont even bother calling to confirm.
the reason they offer all these "extras" is because the service itself is so sub par compared to shaw.

Really? A $500 portable genny is much more affordable than a NG gen set.

Speaking of power outages. Mine as out for about an hour today. My whole tank is on a ups. After about 20 min I flicked off everything but the return pump. And she lasted the run of it all. My ace to re-wire my switch Bar so just the return of mp10 is on ups
