I saw some neat, but very expensive, starfish yesterday at J&L. It was orange with blue dots if I remember correctly. I wasn't able to find the ID of them when I was at the store. I've never seen them anywhere before. Did anyone else see them and know what species it is?

I think those were on their "New & Noteworthy" page a couple of weeks ago. They called them "opie" stars. Ophidiaster something or other. I can't remember the species name. Sorry. How much were they? I remember them being quite reasonable on their web page.

Christy :)

Hi Christy. I think the ones that you saw on their website were the plain orange stars. They were $19. But the ones at the shop yesterday were not the same. They were larger and had blue dots. They were $45 or so each.

Well the ones on their site definitely had blue dots. I could be off on the price though. I do that sometimes

The opie star that was on their new and notworthy were for 19.99. I bought one of them and its been crusing around my tank for a while. ONe of its arm fell off and now its also crusing around so I'm expecting two of these full stars soon. I sure didn't see any thats for $45!!!! thats steep! i am waiting for some red serpent or blue stars like yours Sam.

Hey Chin. The stars came in this week I think since they weren't there last weekend when I was there. Someone here should get 1 and take some pics. I would get one except, my anemones have aquired a taste for orange stars falling off the glass and into their mouths.

I am just wondering about the survivability of these starfish and how many people have had success with them for more than a few months, I'd love to get a blue linkia or a red starfish but I'm worried about losing it. There does not seem to be a consensus on what these starfish eat or how to sustain them.

Here it is. Isn't that sweet!?! It says Fromia but I've never seen anything like it before.

The price went up. Now $55.
