I have just noticed the that near the base of my hammers, the branch shell is fallen off on both branches revealing the "gill" like structure inside. The coral seems happy enough during the day and as you can see has recently split. All parameters are with in proper range. Only thing that could maybe pull this off it my emerald crab but he never leaves the rocks. Any ideas? Anyone seen this?

Sorry about the poor pic but can only see the issues from above so ripples in water throw off the clarity.

If you are talking about the thin milky membrane that goes down the branch it's not uncommon to have it recede a bit. To come off to the point of exposing the skeleton will not be good in the long run. Keep water conditions right and it might grow back enough to cover the skeleton. If you see brown jelly forming around the opening throw it out or if you want try to treat it or cut off the sick head. All crabs are deviant pains in the ass my advise get a hammer and let him have it.

I had the same thing happen awhile ago. Dip it and see if anything comes off. I had some kinda flat worm eating my euphillia until i realized what the problem was and dipped the **** out of them
