I am wondering if there is anywhere in Canada to get AB (Aqualine Bushke) single ended 250w bulbs.

I'm looking for something a little more blue than my sun aquatics 10k bulbs.

Thanks.

BOB didn't you mention that it's the bulb you use?

Lots of places do. But the cheapest I've found was:

If you don't mind shipping from the States, Premium Aquatics ships by USPS.

Ocean Encounter was $3 US cheaper but they didn't respond to my emails.

Shipping MH bulbs is always a risk. I hope VISA will insure my purchase since shipping companies don't.

Thanks sam!
Have you used this bulb before?
Anyone else used this bulb before?
If so what did you think?

Thanks

I have two AB 175W bulbs from Premium Aquatics. They were both shipped at different times by USPS, and arrived just fine. I like them because I am not fond of the real blue look. I also don't supplement them.

Hi Jonathan. I haven't used the mogul version before. I have used the DE version. I still preferred to add actinic supplementation with it.

FWIW, I thought Steve/Stircrazy used that bulb for a while (on M80) and was happy with it.

I sold my AB bulbs to Steve because they needed to run on a different ballast to look whiter.

I know the AB DE bulbs at 10k are not nearly blue/white enough for me and I'm going to 20k.

So would these bulbs run properly on a pfo standard 250w ballast?

What made you pick that bulb, Jon? Did you read the latest 400W mogul tests and pick from there? There looks to be some good choices in the 13-14K range too.

best bulb I even used, but they were about 180 each when I got used to the SA bulbs. forwhats its woth the SA bulbs are almost as high in PAR as the AB's but the AB's have a touch more blue to them..

Alan, I picked that bulb because most people said they liked the blue color. That's it.

I'm fairly happy with the sun aquatic/ radium combo but wanted a little more blue without adding more actinic's than my current T-5.

Also my bulbs need replacing soon. Not sure weather to replace my 1 year old radiums or replace my 8ish month old Sun aquatics.

I am going to do some comparason tests on my 9 month old SA's in the next week or two to see how much they have actualy dropped off in PAR output.

I use 2x250W AB mogul version bulbs, run on PFO Lighting HQI ballast, together with VHO actinics to get desired coloration on my 90gal. I got mine from here (http://www.canadianmarineaquariumsupply.com/shop/customer/product.php?productid=16240&cat=341&page=1) where they had these on sale a few months ago. Bulbs were very well packed, actually double-boxed and arrived in perfect condition.

Why not a Hamilton 14k if you want a little more blue?

people are not understanding what a little more blue is for the AB's. befor everyone thinks that an 10K AB is blue let me state it isn't. it is more like a crisp white with no hint of yellow or green. the actual color temp for the AB works out to ~13000K where the SA 14K bulbs in my test were actualy around a 17000K color temp. so you can see the AB isn't blue but it does have just enuf blue in it to make your color in the tank POP with out making the tank look blue.
