Looking for small plastic magnets to hold frag rack. Anyone know of retailer in Canada?

Have to go through 1" acrylic.

The ones sold with frag racks at lfs are too weak...

Best I could find was at kjmagnetics.com in the US, but the ones I would need are $26 each, hoping someone knows of better deal...

Thx

Strong rare earth magnets are expensive. I just use cheap Hagen glass cleaners.

You can get rare earth magnets at Lee Valley Tools for decent prices.. just picked up some 3/4" disks with 22lb holding pull strength for $9 for 5.

They would have to be coated for a tank, but it might something that would work for you.

Princess auto in Coquitlam also sells rare earth magnets for fairly cheap...

Checked out princess auto and lee valley. I don't think any of there magnets are strong enough, I prob need about 60lbs pull force... Also would rather not have to coat them..

Same goes for Hagen glass cleaners..

How big is this frag rack?

It's not the size of the rack that is the issue, it's the 1" thick acrylic the magnet has to work through...

Ah. Ya, that would require something big.

So to be clear, it's the tank that's 1" thick?

Have you thought or tried using hard drive magnets? You might be able to score them, then break them to the size you need.

I've got 1/2 doz of them holding tools onto my tool box. Stick them on the inside and BAM! any steel tools stick to the outside of my tool box. Four of them in one spot holds a small steel tool box in place.

Cheers,
Terry

I got some from WWW.KJMagnetics.com in the US. If you go to their web page under the coated sub head they have a number of sizes and shapes, and also show you the holding capacity for each one. I use the white plastic coated ones, to hold my frag racks and to replace the suction cups on various pumps, ATO,s etc. Using them back to back there is more than enough power.

Not that expensive.

I got 20 x 3/8 rare earth for $11 at lee valley. And that's ALOT of rare earth magnets.

A couple bigger would probably be less than $15-20.... For sure.

I was just about to suggest Princess Auto.

I think those 8mm ones might be a bit small.... We've got a whole bunch of those ones on our fridge at home. Wish I was there and I would test them out....

These ones on the other hand, I struggle to get off the fridge... I bet these would work. Maybe even too strong lol. I made the mistake of using one to stick a couple receipts on the fridge and it was so stuck to the fridge it let me remove the paper around the magnet... but I couldn't get the magnet off.
Otherwise it's princess auto... just return them!
