I have 3/8" mesh and I had a Yasha Goby do the same.

glad all my wrasses are too fat now to fit threw now they just jump into it an bounce off and swim around dazed ....

I used black tulle from a fabric store. Like the stuff they use in a bridal veil or a tu-tu.

I found the 1/2" clear mesh too reflective on my open top cube. The light that reflected off the clear plastic was distracting. The black tulle is almost invisible. Has good air flow as well
