Just received a bubble king supermarin 250 , used .
Got a couple questions :
1st , the skimmer cup just sits on body ??? Doesn't that seem to leak ? I'm just trying it in the sink with vinegar . It's dripping but seal is probably not as soft as new .

the collection cup should thread into the skimmer body

That's what I was expecting . Nope . But I'll have second look . Didn't see any thread portion .
Older version ???

Ya - no threads anywhere . Just a lip to fit it onto, & on top surface , it has a o-ring to sit on , for a seal

I don't think they thread. My BK just sits in the tube. Different model, but I think they all just sit. Some people here have these models, they'll chime in soon enough :)

Thanks .
It isn't a problem if it drips - in sump & the crap ends up in the cup !!
Just thought it was a weird design , but great for limited clearance .

I've only seen the mini's without thread. Unless it's older model. Can you post a pic?

It just sits on, may drip slightly but doesn't effect its operation. My favorite feature of my sm was how the cup just sits on the neck, no treads or friction fit to deal with when the cup is full. Give it a chance, you'll see.

Awesome thanks . Any other tips on use or setup ??
I'm running a Vertex IN-180 right now . But purchased this one for a new tank build.

My BK 180 just sat on top

Interesting . Should I be checking dimensions & confirm it's a 250. Or do you think it was a design change ?
Any difference with performance & cup removal ?
Just curious , too late now - I bought it !!!

Multiple generations, 1st gen it just sat on, they changed it to thread on the 2nd or 3rd gen, not sure which one.

I guess as long as it works just as good

I bought mine used, he said it was about 2 years old then, so about 2.5 to 3 years old now.I am guessing I have the newest Generation.
Hard to compare the 180 and 250. The 250 is a beast compared to the mini 180.
I liked being able to just lift the cup off for the ease of it. Not sure if it would make a difference to performance though. One would think it would be difficult to remove any of the threaded parts without it being obvious, just as adding seals etc would be seen to be done by a person, not the manufacturer. So probably safe to say it was designed to work like that

Just as Sphelps said. It was probably a design change
