With the current exchange rate, not likely you are going to find across the board good deals in the states right now. When the FX was closer to 90 cents I would say definitely there are deals to be had down south.

Wouldn't you rather support your local fish store where you will get personalized assistance and form a good relationship?

For Fish and Coral 100% I would support my local fish store. But for equipment when I'm spending thousands of dollars every $50 difference counts.

I think you're going to find that he variance from one lfs to another is pretty slight.

You might save a few bucks on one item at one, and a few on another at another.

If cost is a concern, you can always buy used.

Its actually ridiculous how many people just decide they want out of the hobby and aren't looking for a premium for goods.

JL Aquatics and Reef Supplies are both good and carry a lot of different products from one another. Even when our dollar was on par I still found JL to be cheaper than the US by the time shipping was factored in. They both also have good websites and carry a wide variety of items.

Curve 7 or 9 from bubble magus great skimmers and both under $500 with money left for something else:)

I asked about these items as it can have a bearing on how much skimmer you need.
No SPS and a small fish load requires a smaller skimmer than a tank packed full of SPS and fish.
If you're not sure, go with the larger-sized suggestions. Then you won't have to upgrade.
To a point, a larger skimmer won't hurt your tank, just your wallet.

LOTS of great skimmers that have been well taken care of in the buy and sell.

generally, a well taken care of skimmer body will last forever.
The pumps need replacing from time to time but a skimmer is one item you shouldn't worry too much about wear and tear.

I wouldn't trade my 7 year old Deltec APF 800 for anything...even though its currently collecting dust.
