I'm hoping to get some feedback about autofeeders as am looking to get one for those times when I'm gone. Below are links to the two I am looking at. If any of you have experience with either of these or have recommendations for a different model I would be interested.

Well, that's strange...let's try that again

EHEIM Everyday Fish Feeder (http://www.amazon.com/Everyday-Feeder-Programmable-Automatic-Dispenser/dp/B001F2117I)

Hydor Automatic Fish Feeder (http://www.amazon.ca/Hydor-Automatic-Battery-Powered-Connection/dp/B0002Z7VQY/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top)

I have had the EHEIM now for a few months and its pretty awesome, I do find with flake food you just need to watch it when it runs low because it doesnt seem to put out as much food then but great for the price.

I have had a pair of the Eheim Feeders running for several years.

I've never had them clog up or any malfunctions.

They are slightly less stable if the chamber is full of heavy pellets/foods. It wont tip, it just could be weighed more IMO.

I've found they work best for small pellets.

The AA batteries last forever. Been at least a year since I changed them last.

Pardon the hijack, does anyone use the Apex AFS? I have an Apex but wondering if it's worth it to buy the AFS or just get the Eheim feeder.

I do and so far it has been great. Easy to program. If enough food does not come out the first time you can easily add rotations etc. No clogs etc either. Some say it is loud for their liking, but mine is downstairs in the sump room, so noise does not factor in for me.

I have had the eheim for a couple of years now. No problems yet but have never had another, so can't compare. I use it for pellets and it does an awesome job.
As said, the batteries seem to last forever.

I used this one for 3 years then sold the tank and ordered another for my recent 220gal, works perfectly for pellets, never used it for flakes, but I'm sure it would do the same. The opening setting for the pellets is very small and can go much larger to use flakes, batteries last years I can run pellets dropping a small amount at 10am it waits a minute and drops the same amount again, then at 2pm same cycle, has over 6 setting durations either 1 drop or two for each. Basically you can schedule pretty much how often and how much you want daily. With those settings the food last approx 3 weeks.

Thank you all for your comments. I will go with the Eheim.

I recommend the Rena over the Eheim, I have both and in my opinion it is a superior unit.

Been using an Eheim dual compartment feeder for years. Works fine. I broke the hinge on the flap that raises & lowers during the feeding cycle, but that was mostly due to my own ineptitude. I think I can order a replacement, but haven't bothered.
