I just finished checking out some amazing pics of various zoos around the site and I'm stumped! I have a 4x6 inch yellow and orange zoo rock that is 75% covered and it's polyps don't bloom like say...Bob's. I have them up pretty high in my tank under 180watts of PC and NO lighting. My levels are pretty good most of the time and I suppliment with trace elements and CA+.

What am I doing wrong?

It is usually the type of lighting that makes things glow or not. If I put my zoos under one particular 28W PC bulb they positively glow. Under my other lights they are not nearly as colorful.

No recent pics, soon though. I thought there might be some kind of special technique or food that makes them look nice.

Try moving them down some. I have some that don't fare so well near them top, they started to lose their color and not open fully till I moved them down while others seem to do real well up high

Holy cow! I actually did that last night  I think that they didn't like the higher current spot they were in, so I'll see if that works.

I really don't feed my zoos except sometimes I throw in some freeze dried Cyclop-eeze, or FD Phytoplankton, but that is hit and miss.

Just a quick update on the Zoos. They have really picked up since I added 130 watts of Pc lighting, but they real change occured after I adjusted my alkalinity and ph. The color has improved and they look a lot more hearty than before.

Makes sense .. even softies use Ca and Alk for growth, so it never hurts to have good values for those two parameters.

In addition to the zoos the rest of my corals are olso doing well. This week I will be switching to MH (250watt 14k), I expect that their growth will improve even further.
