Blonde Naso Tang

I just purchased a blonde naso tang and currently have a scopa tang in the tank. I was told the two would get along fine, but the scopa tang seems more interested in hitting the other tang with his spike when they get too close to each other then they do at being friends. I know it is only the first day, but I would hate to wake up to a dead fish. Will this stop or is it one of those "only time will tell" type of deals. Anyone? :confused:

If they're close to the same size, give them time. The resident scopas will be a bit ticked for a few days. He'll probably get over it soon enough.

I agree. I have a Naso, Scopas and Chevron tang in my 230 and they get along great. There was some fin wagging at first but now they are awsome!

I found that overfeeding Nori and other foods for the first few days helped curb some aggression.

Depends on the size of your tank, imo. In large tanks like Jonathan's, there are plenty of places for the fish to go to get away from each other and to establish territory of their own.

Right. I made the assumption that the tank in question was fairly large, although I have housed 2 tangs in a 75 without incident.

Thanks everyone! I feel a little better knowing that this may pass. My tank is a 75, but I am hoping to upgrage to a 150 soon so everyone will have a little more room to swim and hide. Its tough to find room in a two bedroom apartment for a 150. Thanks again.

And my wife screams NO FISHROOM! :evil: My tank is already 50 over what we are allowed in our building (20). Strata rules. :cry:

My friend has the same problem. He's allowed a 25g but is running a 30g with a 10g sump hoping no one notices.

I was just looking at them and they seem to be adjusting well. Still a little tail wagging from the Scopa. Just bought a Long Nose Butterfly today. The guy at the pet store said it would be ok in my tank, but I have been reading they are good for fish only tanks. And mine's not.

Yeah, a little more research and a lot more time in between additions might be a good idea... but what are ya gonna do? :smile:
