Just finished this project today it started awhile ago but with no rush to build it it's taken awhile. Hopefully this will give him a push to finish his stand.. Anywho

I had acquired a tank with turtles awhile back some may remember. Took it apart and rebuilt the box to fit under his tank. Then it sat and collected dust. Last week I dusted it off and started drawing it out.

I will let the following pictures tell the story

This whole build was done using old tanks reshaped and sized. And a some personal DNA to make it made by me lol

Thanks for looking

That's a pretty nice tank to be turning into a sump
But well done

38L x 13W x 20H

It used to be 60x13x20

And honestly the tank is all scuffed from the turtles it's got a new lease as a sump where as some would have chucked it

The sump he originally had didn't fit nicely in his stand and it bothered me .... Call it sump ocd

And for my next long overdue project turning this into an all in one frag/qt tank since I believe it's tempered glass and I just don't want to risk it... But that may change too

Looks cool but I can't for the life of me figure out some of the design features. That upper chamber with the hose sticking in is for what?

It's a refugium.

Yes a Refugium or holding tank or a save that coral from that damn nippy fish tank.. Most sumps I see have a lot of upper space waste so I've been making my sumps with these upper ranks to hold live tick macro whatever you like

And the space below the mini tank is all return so if you don't have an auto top off you have more room before you have to top off

Both my 180 and my 50 I can go away for a max of 6 days before top off if not using an ato

I hope this helps did the same here for my 50

Nice work, turning old glass into something useful.
I'm at a loss to explain that small airline coming out of the refugium.

If you lived near me I'd love to I have fun playing with glass I now can cut up to 5/8 glass if need be if I have it. Most my donated tanks are of thinner glass and as I go I keep buying new toys to manipulate it. I want to get a polisher one day.
