Hi there Van Islad reefers, I have a question for anyone who lives or knows about Nanaimo. When I lived there the only place to buy reef inhabitants was Pet Cetera is there anywhere else now? I used to buy all my stuff fom a place called Reef Zone, but that went belly up so Im just wondering for when I come back home where I can find some decent Items.

You can try My Fish Tank. They carry marine livestock. Their address is 11 Cliff Street, Nanaimo, BC (250) 741-0021. Its at the intersection of the highway and bowen road (tally ho/civic arena intersection) behind Mr. Lube.

We have fresh air here, too, but it's too freaking cold this time of year to breath it for any length of time :puppydog: Maybe I can be an honourary Islander

Thanks, Tyler  Spent two weeks there in the 70's travelling east to west, then a bit up north. Had a great time. Wonderful, magical place, but I'll bet it's changed quite a bit since the old days. What's the weather like out there these days, just to make me REALLY envious?

Its been a bit colder last week or so. Dropped to a chilly -2C BBbrrrr time to get out the parkas LOL (grew up in ON so I can make fun of the nice warm climate lol) But this too will pass and we'll be in warm weather again. Heck I had to mow the lawn on Dec 22nd it was too long and looked crappy for Xmas. heheheheh

Beverly

Mowed the lawn just before Christmas, eh

Good weather news here for tomorrow - it's going up to -3. The next few days are forecast for lows ranging from -25 to -31 with highs of -22 to -13. Pretty standard stuff, I'm afraid. I gotta find a way to like winter here more, which isn't easy since I've lived here all my 45+ years

Some of the flowers are starting to come up and the trees are starting to bud. Got to love the Island and I to mowed the lawn just before X-mas

Well, to be honest, I had to wear 2 shirts under my cycling jacket for my ride this morning. And my nose got cold (that means I'm healthy, right?)

I lived in Powell River for 4 years & took care of 3.5 million fish/year. I even had a truck & a 18.5' boat with a 220hp BMW inboard motor. Can I be an honourary redneck :drinking:, I mean Islander too?

ya, so my day goes like this, show up for my last day on the ship and pick up documents I need to take to my new unit.

lot of work going on so they ask if I can stay till noon, OK, end up staying till 3, and just before I left I find that they might be pulling me back to the ship for a 6 month trip to help rebuild the villages that were destroyed by the wave. so I could be leaving at the end of the month until the summer sometime but I am going to try fight it. I figure after almost 16 years I deserve my shore posting.

SCrazy,
Will those houses you build come with in the wall reef tanks?

Seriously, if you do end up going, we will be very proud of you & your sacrifice to help those poor survivors. My CanReef buddies & I will drink a toast to you whenever we get together

If I was in my 20s & single, I would have caught a flight home since that's my part of the world that was creamed (born in Penang, Malaysia - off the west coast). Fortunately for my family & friends, the island of Sumatra, Indonesia took the brunt of the force or Penang Island would now be gone. Thank God for Penang's good fortune, but at such a cost.
