I just changed out my 250 watt phoenix bulbs for geismans since the phoenix are now discontinued and I noticed a definite difference in colour spectrum, the 12 month old phoenix bulbs appeared to be bluer. Has anyone else noticed this, as I was expecting the opposite.

I always preferred the bluer look of the Phoenix over the Geismann's.

Didn't hear about Phoenix being discontinued. You MH guys/gals better track down some on Amazon or Ebay and stock up if you use Phoenix bulbs.

j and l no longer can get them, they show up as backorder on the website and after talking to them they are not likely to get anymore in.

I've tried quite a few 14K bulbs over the years and have stuck with Phoenix because as you said, they are the bluest of the bunch (that I've tired). Sadly it is true, they are discontinued :-( I stocked up on a few during this past holiday season. Still trying to source some more where I find pockets of stock left

I'm not too pleased about them either. I bought enough Phoenix to last the next two years plus a pair of Geisemann out of curiosity. They are relatively yellow like you say but I'm reluctant to buy even more Phoenix... it has already been an expensive couple of weeks.

Have you tried the XM bulbs? What are your thoughts?

I have. I liked them. Not as nice as the Phoenix but still nice. I rate the 14K (duel ended) as such..

1. Phoenix 14K (Good balance between growth and colour).

2. XM 15K (A good alternative to Phoenix).

3. Ushio 14K (much whiter than most which means great growth. Needs to be supplimented with a lot of blue T5s though).

3. Giessman/Hamilton/etc (kinda meh on these ones. They get the job done).

4. eBay 14/15K ( cheap, but don't tend to last long. Either burn out quickly or colour shift noticeably earlier).

No problem! Just keep in mind that these are my opinions. Don't take it as gospel :-). Your (and others) experience(s) and opinions may differ.

Any sources in Canada for Ushio bulbs? Haven't been able to find any, or have they also gone the way of Phoenix?

I haven't seen Ushios for a couple of years now. I only see them online with US retailers. It's possible you can still get them but I haven't seen any (locally in Canada).

This sucks. Phoenix are my favorite. How about Ushio 20000K DE? Good growth? Too blue?

I tried the 20K Ushios once and didn't really like them. As you suggested, too blue for me. Others may like that, but the bluer bulb does mean slower growth.

My first mh setup came with 5-6 different 10k bulbs that were all too white for me. Tried Pheonix and loved them. Then I tried the $20 Artemis 14K bulbs from hobbylights onestop and visually they were exactly the same as Pheonix 14k. Not sure about growth but I liked the look and loved the $20 price. Unfortunately hobbylights doesn't list them on their website anymore so I switched back to Pheonix.

Anyone able to source the Artemis 14k bulbs?
