View Full Version : Rio Seio vs. Tunze Stream?

Have seen these new high-flow, low-watt Rio "stream-type" powerheads mentioned a few times lately. Those of you on RC a lot - what's the buzz on these? They look too good to be true... even though they're not close to the real Streams, their specs are pretty impressive.

Here's a Review. (http://reefshow.com/html/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=68)

They are in last month's specials at SWC as well, so I'm curious about them.

That's an excellent review. I would like to try a couple right now.

the only draw back I see is that they will be over 110 bucks by the time you figure in shipping and such. for 190 you get a tunze with twice the flow. now if they could make a 1600 gph version for less than 100.00 then we would be talking.

I was looking at the 65.99 for the 620 GPH unit - running at about the same power consumption as my MJ 900...

Could replace some powerheads, and get a better flow pattern, maybe save some electricity. Maybe even save some money, if J&L carries them...

(no offense Jayson.)

I emailed Jayson on Sept 1, which is the day after the sale ended to see if he would send me one at the sale price. I have as yet to receive an answer. We can hope.

Due to the big demand for these pumps and the recent emails asking for them we are going to honor the price of august for 1 more week. AJ no offence taken if you want to save $ somewhere else you are more than welcome to do so. We have them in stock and ready to ship.

Very cool, Jay.

Can you give any input as to their performance?

Also, what will the price be after the special?

I have run them for aprox 1 month. they are the best bang for the buck that I have seen. they look to be well made better than previous pumps. They do flow alot of water for a small pump. You will just have to try one to see the difference over a powerhead.

How come they can't be hooked up to a timer or a wavemaker?

Ok, I could maybe understand that a wavemaker might be too many on/off cycles and that's hard on a motor, but why not a timer? I.e., 6 hours on 6 hours off or something, that doesn't sound too harsh to me ... what am I overlooking?

Jay,

Looking at the pictures, it appears as thought the nozzle is capable of swivelling back/forth on a certain degree. Is this true or just my wishful thinking?

I am using mine on a 12 hour on 12 off cycle to match my store lights. So far no problems so I think that it will be okay at 6 and 6. They claim not to use them on wave makers but I have spoke with people tha have done this for over 4 month with no issues. The output dirrection is adjustable left to right. It is not automatic but manual. If you have anymore questions le me know. Thanks

I am sold on the product. Who wants to try one? We can put an order in the next couple days.

- Jayson, could you give us the price for both models and perhaps a shipping cost to Calgary. Thanks.

I guess I was in a hurry to replace my snailsucking AC 402, so I have placed an order.
Maybe folks could add to that to save a bit of shipping, but that is up to Jayson I guess.

Jayson

I can add it to Bob's order if it is okay with him. Let me know as soon as possible. Thanks

Hi Jayson,

Sorry for all the questions but would the lower powered model be suitable for a 60 gal, or would it be too much movement?

Best,

Rob

Bob,
Thanks for waiting, but go ahead and push your order thru. Doesn't look like there's any interest locally. I'll just get mine ship seperately.

Shipping in Canada is $8.00 for 1 and $12.00 for 2. I would use the m620 on 3 foot or less size tanks 4 foot and above I would use the m820 and for lots of flow use 2 or more. Thanks

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that I just ordered two of the smaller ones myself. I'll let you know how I fare!

I just called Jayson this afternoon and spoke with him for a while.

FYI, he spent as much time with me as I needed, letting him know the direction I was taking with the tank. He helped me with the pros and cons of different power heads...kudos to him, he also upsold me to two of the smaller pumps vs. one of the bigger ones  !

Ah, the joy of consumerism! Can't wait to get them, maybe this will get me off my ass to post some new pix!

Best,

Rob

Would you use just one M620 on a tank less than 36", and get rid of the other powerheads in the tank  . My tank is 30"X20"x20", and does not contain SPS corals.

I have a Tunze stream 6060 on a 4' x 2' x 2' tank (120 gallons) and I think it is too much flow. There is a mix of hard and soft coral frags in the tank. There is no quiet place in the tank to place mushrooms etc, my green hairy mushrooms got blown all over the tank despite being super-glued down. Maybe I should downgrade to the Seio.

Well just ordered the Seio from Jason and hope it works out better than the stream.

What about using some cut-off MaxiJets for that tank, Bob? Christy seemed to be impressed with the non-linear flow those produced.

Actually there is already a cutoff MJ 900 in the tank. There is also a AC 402 that has to blow downward as it kills snails. Therefore I ordered a M620 to replace those two if possible.

www.reefsolution.com also got them the 620 and 820...... I tried both and love them...

Bigger model should be available since their spec are printed on the SEIO 820/620 box, even a controller should be out maybe this fall, fingers crossed
