Well, my wrasse got spooked and jumped into my overflow. I can see him in there. How to rescue him now? Can I remove the drainpipe and return pipe in my standard Megaflow overflow without causing a flood? Any other advice on how to get him out is much appreciated.

Turn off your return pump, use a hose to suck almost all the water out of your over flow and then net the fish. You can remove the pipes if needed just keep in mind all the water in the overflow will drain back into your sump.

Whenever I lost a fish down an internal overflow with the return and intake pipes in place I have to be very patient with a couple of nets in the overflow. It was cramped, vermetid snails were stabbing me, my back was killing me... but with a bit of patience and slow movements the wrasse swam into one of the nets and I got him out.

Keep return pump running, put net under drain pipe in sump, pull out standpipe, wait...

what type of wrasse.i had a couple of wrasses living in my overflow at separate times.i started feeding them raw shrimp at night till they finally got use to the feeding prong,then i netted them(the net was in the overflow for 2 days so they got use to it)

I've drained the overflow and netted but have also pulled the standpipe and and taken out from the filter sock in the basement. Thinking a quick trip to the basement is probably less stressful than have a net waved around for 1/2 hour.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Thinking I'll try to net him in the return and if that doesn't work I'll put the net in the sump and pull the drainpipe. Just twists on and off right? Will let you know results

So I tried draining overflow to catch the wrasse. No go. So I put a net at the end of my drainpipe in the sump and pulled the standpipe in the overflow... Less than a minute later and the wrasse was in the net. You never really think about what growing in your overflow until something like this happens. Um...ewe...lol! Wrasse has been back in DT for more than 24 hours now and he's only coming out to feed. The rest of the time he's hiding on the sand behind a rock. My female squarespot anthia is the culprit. She chases him around the tank everytime he comes out. He's the only one that can compete with her for food come feeding time. Needless to say, I'll be putting her up for sale soon as I get a chance to net her during next W/C.
Anyone interested in a 4" female squarespot Antonia?
