A bit of an update..

The meeting will be held on Saturday, October 23rd and will start at 12:00 noon.

I think that gives Victoria reefers enough time to jump on the 9am(?) ferry from Swartz Bay.

There are 500+ views but only 20+ replies. To get an idea of the numbers please post if you plan on attending, what you might have available and your thoughts on the following:


Group buy on PE mysis
Frag trades
Macro Algae swap
Used equipment buy/sell tables

A raffle draw and prizes would be fun at the meeting. I will try and aquire items donated by vendors around the mainland that want to support the meeting.

Thanks for organizing this, I think its a great initiative. If you need any help, I'm more than willing to organize something.
As far as group buys for inverts, would you be looking to get them to be available on the day of the meet or order them after the meet? If its for that day, maybe you can get a list of species and prices to start tallying up the numbers.
Can we also looking into group-buy of some red gracilaria algae such as from http://www.rsmas.miami.edu/groups/sea-hares/slug-prices.html I've been interested in obtaining these algae for a long time but its not worth the shipping by myself. I've inquired several times with the university and they will sell it at NIH INVESTIGATORS PRICE if its over 5 lbs at $8/lb but overnight shipping is about 70-80 US.

To trade/sell:
1) I have three Beckett skimmers that I made last year when I first started trying to make them so being the rookie then .... the joints are not the prettiest but they are very strong. They don't have injectors but the box is made of 3/16 black cast acrylic, all have one 1.5" bulkhead drain, one 1" bulkhead for injector, 6" cast 1/4" thick acrylic chamber, 4" cast 1/4" thick acrylic riser, 2 O-rings, thumbnail screws. You would need to build your own injector, plumb a 1.5" ball valve and you are set. They are all the size of a bullet 2. PM me if you want a pic.
2) 30 watt Aquanetic UV sterilizer
3) bunch of mag 2, 3 some 5's

A great idea was reccomended to me by Doug (pinhead) on Canreef. Seeing as the last meeting was a bit crazy when it came to trading. :lol:

Each member will get a name tag as they enter the meeting and frags and macro algae they bring for buy/sell/trade will be written next to their name on an large "availabilty chart" on the wall. This will make trading a bit more fun and organized.

It helps the people who haven't met eachother before get in the action aswell.

I will setup heated holding tanks for people.

Doug will be in charge of this and setting it up. Any questions can be directed at him. A PM will work.

Chris (poccilopora) to answer your question, no, the meeting will not be held at Ocean Aquatics but pretty close. There is very large and open restaurant around the corner that I will be looking to rent for the day. There is also a large meeting room beside that restaurant so either or will do. There is lots of parking here so I think it all works out.

I want to make this a bit more than a crowded basement meeting although those are fun too! :mrgreen:

Having the meeting near the shop will make organizing group orders on livestock a bit more feasible. That way I can acclimate and hold them in the tanks ready for pickup.

I can also do a WaltSmith order if you acro nuts, like me, want. Input?

Any idea's and opinions are open to discussion.

I have yellow polyps but I am flying down Thursday night and I am not sure if there is a way to make the yellop polyps survive until Saturday, in a bag of water at room temperature (70 degrees). Any thoughts?

I am looking for some frags that will do well under PC lighting. I'd really llike to find some in either bule or pruple. Some type of blue/purple polyps or mushrooms would also be a nice addtions .
I really wish I could come down for this but unfortunelty, due to health/travel issues, I will not be able to be there but someone here has gracially offered to bring a few pieces back for me. Can anyone give directions to drive to Ocean Aquatics from Vancouver?

from Vancouver you take the Oak street bridge through Richmond on Hwy 99. follow it through the Tunnel and take your second right exit. That exit is for the Tswassen Ferries. Now in the right turn of the second exit it splits off to the left very quickly (or you can go straight to the ferries but don't do that). TAKE the left turn. It quickly stops at a light. You can only go left at the light . so go left and follow the road back over the overpass straight through. That road your on is called River Road. Follow that for awhile past a Shell station and some small farms etc until you get into an industrial type area on your right side.(a couple of miles or so) until you come to either 72nd or 76st it is by a Huskie station. The Huskie gas station is on your left. Turn right at that light. Make your first LEFT right away into an industrial area. Drive between a couple of buildings until you come to Ocean Aquatics. HTH

Me too, please (zoos). Will have bright red macroalgae, metallic green star polyps and maybe some loose mushrooms. Anybody need Nori (10 Seaweed sheets/pack) for feeding their tangs & such? I can probably buy some up & bring it to the meeting, especially for out-of-towners who don't have easy access to it. $2/pack or trade. (have 3 right now, need more?)[/list]

I just wanted to know if anyone actually wanted the Xenia. I didn't want to remove it from my tank if no one wanted it ecause I heard it doesn't travel well. I also have a BOATLOAD of Sargassum for people to put into their Sump/Fuge, or feed to their tangs...
