View Full Version : Any Interest In Clear Mesh?

Ron99
09-03-2014, 09:53 PM
I may have a source to get some bulk clear netting for tank screen tops. It would be similar to the quarter inch netting BRS sells. It would probably cost about 55 to 65 cents per square foot. Who might be interested? The more interest I have the closer to 50 cents I can get.

Ron99
09-03-2014, 11:21 PM
Actually looks like it can get down to 35 to 40 cents per square foot. Who wants a screen top? :)

Will you ship to edmonton?

Ron99
09-04-2014, 12:59 AM
Sure, I can ship anywhere. Shipping costs should be low as I can probably just fold it up into a small padded or rigid cardboard mailer.

WarDog

I'd be down for a 4 foot by 2 foot chunk.

Ron99

OK, looks like we are getting some interest so I will go ahead and order some. I'm not sure what the ETA is but I imagine no more than a couple weeks.

Ron99
09-05-2014, 12:55 AM
OK, everyone's interest so far is noted and I should be ordering the roll tomorrow. I will order extra for others who want in as well.

Some people have been asking about size. The roll is 10' wide so I can cut to whatever size you need.

I may want a piece too! I need to cover an area of 2 x 1 feet.

Thanks!

Just a quick update. Have a big roll on the way. I should have it within a week or so and will follow up with everyone once it's here :)

If its strong enough to withstand raccoons and I can use it over my small koi pond, then I'll want to buy some too.

I'm not sure Anthony. It may be. You can check it out once I have it :)

I think so. Will have to double check to make sure my bank supports them. They didn't before but I think they may now.

Ron99

It's here. It's really fine and transparent, like very clear fishing line.

I'll start PMing those who expressed interest later this evening with totals for the net and shipping.

I might take a second backup peice as well depending on what that would do to shipping.

That stuff is great for tank tops. And way cheaper than the mesh back east:lol:

Ron99
09-19-2014, 12:54 AM
Alright, did some calculations on my costs with shipping and taxes etc so we are loking at $0.50 a square foot. I'm in the South Surrey/White Rock area in BC so if you are local and want to pick up or arrange to meet somewhere mutually convenient then that's all you'll pay.

If you need it shipped the cost for postage and a mailer will be $3.10 for a smaller piece (2'x4' or something similar). if you need something a bit larger or several pieces I may need to put it in a larger mailer so you would be looking at $4.90 for shipping.

I'll PM those who have already made requests soon with your totals.

I can take payment in cash for local pick up. For non locals it's going to be Paypal primarily. My bank apparently won't start supporting interac email transfers until next month and I get charged $4.00 to receive one until then. So if you want to send money that way I'll have to get you to pay that $4.00 as I don't have any profits to absorb that.

I hate to do this: I paid for my netting, about 3 weeks ago. He told me it was going to be shipped on Oct 11th, haven't heard from him since. Send two PMs this last week and no response…
I know it is only a small amount of money, but I'm still not happy about it.

I'm sure there is a good explanation for this as it seems others have gotten their netting.

+1. I have seen the kits at Rona, Home De Pot and my local Timbr-mart. White or black. Around $25 if I remember.

Bill, enough for a 30x40 cover, plus whatever waste is likely. So 3' x 4' maybe?

Something worth mentioning is that if you don't regularly rinse the salt creep off the mesh it tends to eat it. I think halides play a role in the deterioration as well. I suspect average life is a year or two.

I was thinking about that with the MH, they will heat it up pretty good :)

TimT
12-14-2014, 05:06 AM
The weird thing is they don't usually get brittle under the halide, it seems to be around the edges, about an inch in from the frame.

I find when fish jump out, they tend to get brittle around the edges too. I guess replace as necessary :) Mesh, not fish lol
