Best place to get an Askoll 1500 pump? The old Laguna Powerjet 1500 is discontinued, so looking for a source or alternative. This is to replace a RD pump in a BK mini 160

I have been looking for a while for a laguna 1500. Phoned the co. last year and looked around for old stock, but no luck.
My motor block went and that seems to be the problem with that askol. Laguna told me that is the reason they discontinued the pump.
Good luck

When I get onto my other computer I will send u a link where you can buy a similar pump.

if you can't found one, the water blaster/bubble blaster pumps from coralvue should be very close to those pumps

The link I had for the askoll 1500 has now been deleted. They replaced it with the askoll 1350 so I wrote them and asked if my old impeller from the 1500 would fit into the 1350.
I should have bought the 1500 last year. Darn!

There is always this:

If they have any let me know

The new Maxflow 1350 fits the impeller, but it is a bit smaller. Not sure how that impacts performance.

Dave, pretty sure that doesn't fit. It's got to be exact.

Brad does your BK pump say 600 or 800 on it?

600, but I believe both use the same block

Yes they do, but the 600 puts out 1000 lph water and the 800 puts out 1500 lph
Both motor blocks are the same, so the only difference must be the impeller and/or the volute.
However the askoll 1350 puts out max 5100 lph. So if your impeller and your volute fit the 1350 then the pump should be a direct replacement.

Yes.

My LFS did a 1350 replacement into a mini, I may be able to track the customer down and find out what his thoughts are.

Pretty sure it's the 800. I know it wasn't the 600

Clearwater ponds here in Errington sells Laguna pumps. Have you tried them Brad, or are you looking for a total shift away from them?

Dom, I'm fine with that pump, but the one I need is discontinued. I would need to find a store that had old stock.
Who was it that worked there again? I forget his name..

Kyle, but he's gone now, took a job out in the oil patch.

I can call, but I may check some of the pond shops around here first. Not so far of a drive :)

so let me get this right, you got rid of a good skimmer for one that doesn't work but costs more?

I have no idea what you're going on about. I retired a euroreef RS135 for 2 BK mini 160s. One of which needs a pump. The other, as of about 2 hours ago, may also need a pump, but I did trade to a working skimmer at the time. Pay closer attention, k? :)

I had experienced using Maxflo 1500 ( old version of Maxflo 1350 ) for BK mini 200 a few years ago. HTH

This might work for people looking for the askoll 1500 if it's still available at SWC.

Another option might be a Vertex Alpha skimmer pump. They use an Askoll block too but I'm not sure exactly which one.

Hey guys,

just wanted to post my experience. I recently replaced the pump in my BK Mini 180 Gen 1 with the laguna 1350. Everything bolted up and lined up perfectly. Only Problem it was pulling way more water then air. I managed to find a Volute off of a newer Bk/Vertex (big white one) and my skimate increased dramatically yet still not 100%, I believe i need the newer impeller to go along with it.

That being said, i believe if you have a Gen 2 or newer the 1350 will perform better.

I just finished adding one of these Askoll 1350's to both a Mini 200 and a 160. I haven't fired up the 160 yet, but the 200 is great. Exactly what I expected for performance. I swapped out a mini 180 that I've been running for a month, and the foam density and skimmate are comparable.
The 200 needed the screw holes enlarged a bit, you can drill these or probably use a steak knife.
The 160 just bolts right up.

Which volute and impeller on the 180?

Whatever it came with, likely gen 1 style. It's gone home now so can't check.

Impeller and volute on 200 are Gen 1
