I'm about to change out my 250W DE Optix Pendent and replace it with a PFO reflector and Mogul bulb. I don't expect any change in PPFD since my ballast will remain unchanged.

I found this link to be useful in deciding which bulb I will buy for my setup. Since I have an Icecap ballast, the data suggests that the XM10K, Iwasaki, Blueline Superwhite, and Sun Aquatics 10K will give me the most PPFD.

Sam remember these tests are an ideal test condition not a real world application. and a few people have found that certain bulbs preform different from the published tests when used in actual tanks. remember the saying if it ain't broke don't fix it.. I have a hard time listening to that also but if you are happy with your tank why change? the SA bulb while I am used to them now are not as white as I would like but like I said I am used to the green tinge now and until they need replacing they will stay. I am going to try adding new actinic to the tank and see if I can make them more appealing to my eye as this would be cheaper than buying new AB bulbs.

now if there is a different reason you want to switch setups let us know so we know whats your thinking

Steve, I wanted to see if the larger/longer mogul based bulbs will eliminate the shadow under my center brace. Also, I was going to try switching to Iwasaki.

sam,

just keep in mind that if you are looking to get the same "color" light you are used to now... you'll most likely need to heavily supplement the Iwasaki 6500k with quite a bit of actinic.
