I seem to be having a problem with purple hairy alge growing on the gravel in my tank. It's starting to take over my tank and I think I have tried almost everything. Even pulling it out. HELP!

you should try to figure out what is makeing it grow, ie to many nutrients in the way ,tap water was a major Contributer to my algea woes before i changed to ro water .

Where ever the alge grows it's always full of bubbles. The only thing I changed in my tank was the lighting.

sounds like cyano, do you have a good skimmer?

Just put a new one on today. Way bigger and way better.
What exactly is cyano?

What exactly is cyano?

cyano is a bacteria, blue/green algae (pond scum) is one version of it but more common in our tanks are colors ranging from brown to red to purple. it seams to form a mat that is full of bubbles and I have seen it get what looks like strings in my tank. increased water flow is a big help as well as your increased skimming. asside from this I don't know much about it as I have only seen it in my tank in very small amounts and it dissapears as fast as it starts.
