so ive been out of the hobby for almost two years now, and a friend of mine is going to start a tank in 14g biocube that he has. ive given him some rock that was live, but has been dry for two years now(sand too).

im wondering what needs to be done to the rock before the tank can be setup?.

thanks guys.

I'm using rock that's been dry for about 6 months. I've got it curing in a tub of SW with a bunch of live stuff, and a heater and power head. I'm adding food and phosphate remover.
I think that's good, but until I get it in a tank full of fish with some lights on it, I can't say for sure how well it's going to work.

Adding directly and trying to set the tank up with it is almost a for sure recipe for algae problems.

Further, for a 14g tank, I'd use about 7 pounds of rock. For that amount, I'd avoid the trouble altogether and buy fresh rock.
