Question for Alberta people re: camping

Our long-awaited vacation starts this Friday, we had planned to drive to Jasper and Banff for a camping trip.

Now the Parks Canada union members are on strike wanting a 40% pay raise up to $23.00 per hour for a non-skilled labourer.

We are looking at contingency plans, I heard there is good camping near the Kananaskis area, can anyone suggest some good spots within a few hours drive of the B.C. border that are provincial camp areas, not in National Parks?

I will not raise in this post how I feel about these union members ruining my vacation because it will just raise my blood pressure.

I don't think they have actually gone on strike yet. They will be in a position to do so by Thurday, but may not even then.

Kananaskis is very nice too. There are a number of campgrounds there with good facilities. There are tons of hiking and mountain biking trails in Kananaskis to enjoy. It is a provincial park, so there should be no strike issues. All the maintenance is private contracts anyway. Hope you can manage to relax, enjoy your holiday and get that BP down.

Actually Mount Kidd has a tenting area so even though it says "RV" in the name, you can look that one up too if you're tenting.

If your heart is set on staying near Banff park, then Bow Valley p.p. and Kananaskis country/Peter Lougheed p.p. are solid bets and there are plenty of campgrounds to choose from in either.

If you would prefer to be closer to Jasper then you should really go to Mount Robson p.p. (in BC.). It's a fantastic place to camp.

Thanks for all the advice. I see the temperature in Jasper is supposed to be in the low 30's the next few days.
