Have my new Maxima Clam sitting on the bottom approx 30 inches away from my AI Vegas lighting from above. I have 4 Vega units above my 5 foot tank. Would there be enough light for the clam or should I try to move him higher up in the tank? He is open great when the lights are on and he is very responsive but I am told they need a ton of light. What does everyone think? I don't really have a spot higher up I feel would look good though, but if it came down to it I would make it work.

It's probably fine. LEDs are more powerful than people give them credit for.

I have two maximas that are on the bottom of my 18" cube and my AI sol's are mounted 15" off the surface of the water. With sand bed and flat rock they are on they are 30" from the led's and are totally fine.

Just watch the clam, if it is kinda closed up it may be getting too much light, if it is really overly stretched out it may not be getting enough light. There are other reasons for it to be closed up or overly stretched, but light is one of the reasons.

Maxima clams - especially 'brighter, vibrant' ones require the most light out the most commonly found varieties: Maxima, Squamosa, Derasa. I think you have more than enough lighting. In fact; I'd be a little concerned if it was introduced directly underneath the LED fixture.

If it appears "happy" then I wouldn't change a thing. Like most corals (especially under LED lit displays); I would start the clam along the periphery and move the clam inwards and upwards (if necessary) to your desired location.
