Hi, I have a bunch of little hatchlings swimming around and under my carpet anenome. They can't be fish because I only have one pair of maroons and they didn't lay any eggs. These little things live in a piece of lava rock and are enjoying the protection of the carpet anenome at their front door. The only critters that live close to the carpet anenome are my two fire shrimp. These baby critters range from 2mm to 5mm right now. Their bodies are clear except for an orange what looks like a yolk sac. They have a forked tail and tiny black eyes. They swim eratically backwards, forwards, tightloops. They also move along the sand bed. I'm not sure if they have legs or not yet. I also have a couple of varieties of small feeder shrimp living in the tank but these new babies don't contract their bodies to move like the other varieties do. These new ones are also longer. Anyway...what can these things be?

Sounds like Mysid Shrimp (http://reefs.org/hhfaq/pages/picture_pages/faq_mysid.html) .

You can see mine cruz'n around the shaded parts in my tank.

Here's a nice pic.

That is probably the closest thing I've seen so far. I assume that they are harmless. I just can't figure where they came from all of a sudden. I haven't had them before and there is nothing new in my tank. Anyway I assume that they are harmless. Thanks for your reply.
