View Full Version : No Flow to GFO Reactor

I am just wondering if it is alright for me to just cut off flow to GFO Reactor for now without removing GFO?

I currently run biopellets and my phosphate reading is really low(0.04) but my nitrate level is 2.5 (Salifert). I know that there has to be phosphates for biopellets to remove nitrates (1:16). So cutting of flow to GFO will increase me to the phophate level I am looking for, but I want to slowly bring the GFO back online once this happens.

Cutting off flow entirely would allow it to go anaerobic, which would result in hydrogen sulphide build up, as soon as you opened it back up you would be dumping that into your tank, not good.

I have a canister filter that I use to remove detritus from my sump and got called away to work on an emergency and ended up leaving it for a week, it was pretty nasty when I got home to clean it out.
