Hello Reefers,

I have a problem. I have had my tank running for about 1.5 years now. My corals are growing, my fish are all getting along. Yesterday I came home and could not find my Blue Tang. Well she was dryed out on the floor. This one hurt. It is not the first jumper either. In less than two years I have had a bicolor blenny, O. Clown, and now my blue tang all hit the floor.

Is there some way to stop this? Do most of you cover your tanks? Is it just bad luck? any advice would help

I have always had a cover on all my tanks.
Fish which are considered non jumpers will jump at some point in there life.

You can buy a screen kit from BRS.

http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/catalog/product/view/id/2094/

They have it in 1/4" or 1/2" netting. 1/2" would be just fine. I lost a Harlequin Tuskfish while on holidays once and have had a screen on my tank ever since.

Home Depot or lowes, window screen kit to build your own, the screen material you can get from Canadian tire for fairly cheap in the outdoor section I think it's labelled plastic chicken mesh or the likes....

Does the screen block light?

I have the BRS screen kit and it doesn't block any light from what I can tell. I can barely even notice it there when I look at the tank either

Standard fiberglass or aluminum window screen mesh WILL block quite a bit of light. Chicken wire or epoxy coated wire mesh with 1/4"-3/8" spacing between wires will be much better. I used bridal veil netting that I found at fabricland (with 1/4" holes). It's nearly invisible and alot stronger than I thought it would be.

All fish will eventually jump once they figure out they are trapped in a tiny tank (compared to the ocean)

Yeah the stuff from BRS is good but their shipping charges aren't. Total rip-off. I have some left over, how much do you need?

Egg crate it's easy to work with won't diffuse the light too much and give you piece of mind

How does something that's called a light diffuser not diffuse light? It's not called egg crate.
