There were a few of us sitting in the living room near the tank tonight and my friend asked what was hanging from one of the fish...looked over and saw this...

The images i have are better quality so may be hard to tell but quite certain its an egg sack...
There are 3 of these fish in the tank and only 2 of them really appear to be very close to each other, they tend to chase the 3rd one away a lot. In the past I've seen what looked to be the male holding something in its mouth and went through phases of not eating. Looks like a breeding pair, havent seen the male hold eggs for months though, it may have given up on trying to rear them for some reason. At the point of the photos being taken there were 4 of us watching them and 7 other fish in the tank... Sadly when the eggs released, they slowly sank to the bottom but not before the male took a bite in a not so gentle un-daddy like hungry kinda way, gobble gobble. Or maybe it just takes what it needs....

Anyways, thought I'd share

This post could not come at a better time. I have a cardinal looking just like that and i assumed he might be sick. Was gonna research what to do this morning. So that will just drop off and life will return to normal?
