WTB auto feeder

hey, going on holidays looking for anauto feeder, preferably a three times a day.

how long are you going to be away?

About a week and a half.

If it were me, I'd feed them well before I left, and have a friend come by once or twice to feed them while I was gone. Then give them a good meal and a water change when you get back.
I think the auto feeders are too finicky and risky. If it malfunctioned and dumped all that food in at once, you'll have a tank of probably dead fish when you get back
Fish can go a fairly long time without eating (with exceptions)

I am disagreeing with Brad a little bit. I use automatic feeders by NutriMatic, which I get at a LFS for around $24.95. They are battery operated, and if the battery fails they just won't operate, but that has never happened. The food is in a rotating drum, and even if it fails it will never dump all the food in at once. :mrgreen:

thats the feeder I was looking at, although I try to feed my fish small portions three times a day to cut down on waste.

I travel alot for my job and I've been using this feeder from J&L it works great for me;

It's not the cheapest thing but it gives you the best control over how much you are feeding.

I've found that using the tumble feeders I was either feeding to little or way too much.

One trick I use is to put one of those feeding stations below the feeder to prevent the food from get getting swept away and down the over flows.

I realise that it's not battery operated but really if your power goes out when your not there providing your fish with food is a little low on the priority list.

That's my 2 cents

But let's face the facts if you are able to have someone come over and feed your fish that's your best bet.

I use an autofeeder by Eheim. It is digital, battery powered, 1 to 4 feedings per 24 hr period, adjustable serving amounts, little fan on the unit to prevent moisture from entering the drum and clogging the unit. Love it, and so do the fish. My flame angel learned when mealtimes were scheduled and would wait beneath the feeder.

Will the Eheim feeder mount onto the rim of a tank for those of us who have no canopy or cover on our tanks?

Doubt it. The one I have is designed to sit on the canopy.

Bob, where you findin' the NutriMatic for that price...? :eek: . I've only seen 'em for I think about $ 70.00. That's a good unit IMO !
I also use the ProFeed,(Hagen), on several of my lease units. It's been reliable but it's not digitally programmable. It can dispense two feedings/day but you have to "be present at that time" to program. :confused: About $ 50.00 through www.petandponds.com
The Penn-Plaxx is a cheapo but it's not programmable. It rotates like a clock and dumps twice a day on twelve hour intervals...that's great if ya' feed at noon and again at midnight. :rolleyes: Less than $ 20.00 at Wal-Mart.

The feeding ring is a great "accompanienment" as mentioned !

A "fish sitter" is my favorite as well. I use them little ketchup cups from Burger King and that allows me to control how much the fish are fed while I lie on the beach, drinkin' Corona, hopin' I turned off the water valves... :eek:

Also looking for a automatic feeder. Going away for 2 weeks, and don't want to rely on anyone coming to feed the fish everyday. Would rather have them come every few days just to make sure things are in order.
