Yeah, they look great - very active! First time I've seen Erectus Seahorses in person, and first time I've seen them for sale in Western Canada. They are supposed to be the easiest species to keep. How could I not? :D

Please consider feeding them rinsed thawed frozen mysis at least three times a day to get them fattened up. They appear from the pics to have very flat sides when in fact they should be slightly rounded.

Your mail box is full and I couldn't reply.
When I imported the first shipment some years ago, they were all fat and happy AND much larger.
With her success then, she has had demands from across Canada and to be able to fill orders ends up shipping at earlier age and in worse condition.
Same thing happened with Aquamarine International with their reidi. Good for years until sales demands meant they couldn't fill orders without pushing the stock through much too fast.
Now, a lot of places refuse to sell A.I.'s reidi and eventually it may end up the same way for Beth's erectus.
I don't know for sure that what you have there are Beth's though as there is another supply coming into Canada that is in about the same shape as Beth's present stock, but so far I've been unable to trace the origin.
If anyone finds out, please let me know.

Yeah Paddy. Got a little herd now. They are eating like gluttons, so they will be fat in no time. :)

Unless you can find a breeder selling captive bred pipe fish, as well as captive bred seahorses, it is NOT good to attempt the two together.
Successes with both seahorses and pipe fish are worse than trying two different seahorse species together.
You have better luck with pipe fish in a reef tank, depending on the type of pipe fish.

Here are more pics that I took on Feb 26th. I had them for less then 24 hours at that point.

Here are a couple pics from today. I think it's safe to say they are trained to the feeding dish! :D

I'm going to try to make a video of them this week sometime so you guys can see what happens at feeding time. They are a riot!

You should definitely try to get a video of feeding time!!

Are they just on Mysis?

Evil. Your pics are making it so tempting to start a new seahorse species tank. Evil, but cute:wink:

They are eating PE Mysis and Hikari Plankton about 60/40.

I've attempted a couple times to add my homemade frozen mash, but they aren't interested (no surprise). The mash I have now has Spirulina in it though, so it is green and it actually looks a lot like seahorse poop, so I'm going to try making some mash without Spirulina to see if I can entice them. I'm not holding much faith, but who knows. They really look at the food before snicking it, so I think it may be tough to get them to snick something that isn't shrimp shaped.

Do it! :D

wow amazing I love seahorses.
I have the same ones and they are doing great, over a year now.
I cant get them to eat anything other than frozen Mysis. But I have fed them live small fresh water shrimp and they go crazy for them although I would not recommend it as it introduces all sorts of unknown's to the tank.

Have you tried Plankton and small Krill? Mine will eat anything that is shrimp-shaped.

Thanks for the tip I will try plankton for sure.
Are they paired up? Do you plan on breeding them?

You can order them from Sea U Marine in Markham Ontario but they are expensive.
