So I gave in and bought a Hanna phosphorus checker the other day
As I was starting to question my other test kits constant 0 ppm
Well the Hanna said 11 ppb /0.011 ppm
I have some newish sps that have browned some
My question is should I run some phosban ?
Knowing that sps need some phosphorus just not sure how much is too much and I don't want a: to kill my coral or b: start an outbreak/nightmare of hair algae

Your readings are good, that's where you want to be in the range of phosphates. To answer your question, I don't think you would want your phosphates much lower than that, I have seen many great SPS tanks with slightly higher phosphates in 0.05ppm range. The SPS do need some phosphates or they will pale out and starve. You mentioned you have some new SPS that were brown, I don't think your phosphates are high enough to contribute to the browning. There are a lot of other factors, transferring stress, new environment, water parameters, time, lighting and etc. These all play a role in SPS color. Hope this helps.

Your calculation is slightly off.

11ppb = 0.033726 (Result X 3.066 / 1000)

Yeah I figure they're just acclimating just didn't want to ignore it and bam hair algae!

Interesting I would've assumed ( result / 1000)
So should I run a little phosban ? I bought them from you 2 weeks ago what's your systems p04?
(By the way it's only one frag browned slightly )

I have a Hanna for PO4 and it measures in "ppm", I have not yet gotten my PO4 under 0.09 ppm & often wondered if my tester is off. Then I measured the water from another guys tank and came back at 0. So, I have a surplus of PO4 in my tank and I am running a healthy diet of Rowa to try and absorb it all.

My question is why does your Hanna PO4 tester measure in ppb and ppm ?

It's the ulr ( ultra low range phosphorus )
Checker

The Hanna phosphate checker reads in PPM
Where as the Hanna Phosphorous checker reads in PPB
