I have a roto fab, I bought it off someone else so I didn't receive any paperwork.

It's been on my car for a couple of months, on his for a couple. I'm just wondering about the frequency of recharging the filters. K&N is every 50k, but I am not sure on this one. I've seen info on every 10k miles, if so, it's a bit of a pita as I have to basically take it apart just to get the filter out.

It all depends if its a wet or dry cai. K&n are wet filters that can be washed. Some cant be washed, but those are generally cheaper because you have to replace them not wash them. They are all pretty much the same functionality wise though if you keep them clean

Mines an oil (wet). I cleaned it last night and oiling it today, just honestly wondering how often it needs to be done. At any rate, happy to have it redone now.

Eventually I may pick up a second wet filter just so the car isn't out of commission for any time while waiting for the filter clean to complete. Like I said, it's a pita to pull out as we had to disconnect almost everything to remove it. Wet or dry, same process....:lol:

My advice to you as a mechanic if its in a small low car don't crash through puddles, seen lots of water damaged engines with col air intakes. Just my thought but the manufacture pays the engineers a pile of money to design a air intake to work best with the vehicle it's going on. There is only one way to get more air in an engine less filtration. But they work just make sure you tighten all the clams and have fun

agreed with the no air filter, just switch it to a turbo and have more fun:lol: thats what i did lol although i'm always scared when it rains since i run no filters on my turbo lol

Nah, ive got enough hp, not going to add more, I winter drive mine so more would put it in the garage.....considering the winter we've had, engine bay is still pretty clean. I'll run it through the summer as I'm not sure I see any difference with it...

I have an EVOMS cold air intake on my Porsche and switched to a dry filter instead of an oiled filter, because if you use too much oil you can damaged you MAF sensor, then I used a Injen HydroShield Pre-Filters over my filter

I'm still waiting for my filter to dry...almost 24 hours now.

Scubadawg, I may switch it to a dry filter, but I'm giving this a try. I've watched so many how to videos. I'm using the K&N recharge kit as that was what was recommended by the shop who sold it. I've also read about over oiling it as well. It looks like the roto fab kit, you squeeze the oil into each rib, this kit is an aerosol can. I just hope I don't have to do this every few months.....

Have to go south for nice cars.....but I followed a massarati out of downtown this week, plus there's a porche parked in my parkade, both are worth double what mine is.....mines just fun to drive year round...:lol:

When i cleaned my intake on my 350z i washed it, dried for 15 minutes, oiled it and started driving. You dont have to soak the filter so that its dripping. Just an even coat. Never had any problems

I have been HUGE into cars for quite some time and have always had good success with CAI and cleaning every 15,000k. IF you don't have luck with your oil bath I would recommend switching to a dry filter. Long term they are just a less hastle option.

Kinda glad I sold my cars and switched to building trucks... No cold air intake needed on my beast ;)

be carful with cold air intakes, most are a waist of money and the improvement is only in specific conditions, there are free (or next to it) things you can do to make it breath better. maybe not as pretty though :mrgreen:

thing is once you are moving so fast your air is cooler anyways, most of the effect of a cold air intake is from better designed air flow, which you can get pretty darn close just by modifying the stock intake. I go to junk yards and buy another intake system for cheep to do my mods on, then I can always put it back to stock if I go to trade it in.

Inspect your's annually. If you can still see the metal screen all around, then it's not dirty enough yet for a recharge, even if the cotton pleating is dirty
If you ever find any part of the screen is covered in dirt, then it's time

If you put on a lot of miles, it won't hurt to recharge it before it's due, but overdoing it is a waste as they need some dirt buildup to work more efficiently ??? That's their claim. So don't over clean it

I put very little miles on my daily driver (>5K/yr), but I re-oil my filter every 20K or so because 'it wasn't red anymore' :rolleyes:

My mileage may jump to 10K with the new job, but look how many years I could go between re-charges

I've got a roto fab intake I picked up from someone else who was trading their car in. He had it on his car for a few months only (bought new) then on mine for a few months. It was full of bugs, but still red. I did the recharge so at least I know where it started from. Almost at 40,000 kms on my car already....:lol:

Thank you! "Hydraulics" are what this truck is commonly mistaken for. It's air ride suspension. Same concept as hydraulics so it can lift and lower, but it doesn't ride like a tool shed, doesn't leak fluid everywhere, and it's not as hard on parts. It can lift just as high as a factory s10 so speed bumps are no issue!

Pretty cool truck!! My brother wanted me to put a hydraulic lift on my car so I could lower it as well, but my car is my dd and although I've taken it to show and shines, Im not planning on entering it for any awards.

My (step) son is showing interest in cars now at 16 (typical boy), but to the point of actually taking steps to go into an apprenticeship program after hs to learn about them and make it a career. Someone here has offered to meet us once his car comes out for the summer to talk about modding a car. We've offered an incentive, min marks for next semester which means his marks have to come up and we'll match whatever he's saved up if he attains a final average. Gr. 12 the minimum will go up again on core subjects.

Cars are a cool but expensive hobby so he's gonna have to work for it, but he's finally found something to be excited about and we are doing everything we can to keep him motivated!

Seems they all have different requirements....I'll probably do the same schedule and tie it in with my spring/fall detailing as that usually takes me a day to do as well (by hand) :lol:.

I only change twice. I don't do a lot of dusty gravel road driving. If I did the change schedule would be different. Clean your filter to your driving needs. That is the way it should be done. Otherwise change when dirty.
