Hey all,

I am having a bit of an issue keeping my tank clean.. I have a weird film on the top of the tank. The film is red in color. I also have red algae on some of the rock

I currently have a 40 gallon tank with two clowns, two benggai cardinals, an orange diamond goby and a few blue legged hermit crabs.

currently for cleaning I have an eheim easy 60 pro and I do perform regular water changes.

Any ideas what this film might be, and how to remedy that and the red algae?

Thanks!

What are you running for water circulation?

I have a Koralia power head.. I can't remember the output though.

Biggest problem is not enough flow and no surface skimming due to the fact you are using a canister filter. With canisters you will not have the surface skim that is required of a SW system.

If you dont have enough circulation or filtration i would think that a film would build up on the surface. You can get a surface skimmer that hooks up to your canister filter. They work pretty good

+1.

I had that issue with a 20g I ran. I added a small AC with surface skimmer attachment. Worked like a charm.
