I'm growing colonies from frags. I find every time I get up to 15-20 heads ... Few heads decide they don't like the colony detach themselves and leave . Scoot few inches over . End result no colonies ... Lots of five headed clusters around my tank .

I shouldn't be complaining really I just went three months without seeing one zoa open to a healthy tank with corals splitting all over the place ..

But kinda worried this is a survival skill from being neglected then all a sudden I spent a month nursing the water quality back to health.

Does this happen to everybody , I'm new to this , tanks been running ten months so its still new .

Just started my 75 gallon build so at least il have lots of corals when it's all set up !

What types of corals are doing this?

My zoas I think I figured it out . Only my high up ones are doing this so I think my lights are to strong and there detaching and moving down . You would think the whole colony would move not just five or six though ?

Oh they move ,always to where you don't want like the edge of the frag tile . Sometimes they just need there own space and once the start to grow they will fill in the space between faster than if they didn't move.

Another random question is I can't keep snails. I have two huge emerald crabs and a big old turbo snail. Every snail I added to the tank close up and die .

What are your tank parameters like? Maintenance schedule?
(don't have a clue but this might help the people that do know lol)
I found I lost more snails and my emerald crab when I left my tank for a few months with no w/c meaning it probably had much lower calcium levels and what not, then those critters required, however all my LPS and encrusting montis were flourishing so....
