i know colecting wild specimens is bad.But man there are millions. So my question is beside the obvious like water temp pollution and illnesse would there be a down side for these guys in my sytem.

The crabs you are talking about would be cold water crabs and I don't think they'd be suitable for a tropical tank.

the thing is that i senn them in small pools at low tide around 3:45 this afternooon.the water had to of been pushing 80.so if they can survive 5 hours of this couldnt they adapt to the aquarium permanently.

They would not adapt. They can handle swings, but unless you want to drop your tank down to 50F every 12 hours, they would soon die. I know, I tried years ago.

And why is this in the Manitoba forum?

And why is this in the Manitoba forum?

I was wondering that also. I thought perhaps Cresent beach was here somewhere.

I see thousands of snails but never any hermits and I'm there almost every week. Were they in one small area?

They will survive, but they will pick at anenomes and eat everything they can get.

They will survive...

What are you basing this on? Their metabolism is suited for cool/cold water.

I've never had any luck with cold or temperate water animals such as BC Coast snails and Catalina gobies. They live for a few weeks or months max.

They will survive, .

No, they won't. I'm basing this on doing it and them dying. Several times. Different types of crabs. All dead. Not just sleeping even. Really, really dead. Cold water animals need cold water. They can run around for a few weeks sometimes, but they will die.
