Looking for a solution to an issue. 2002 grand am is doing a theftlock thing and shuts down the engine so I can't start it, I have turned the key to acc/on and done the 10 minute reset, a few times in the last few days, its getting annoying to hope itll start everytime I get into it before work.
Is there a way to disable it or reset it permantly on my own so I don't have to deal with it anymore?

Thanks

Might be a problem with the key if chipped, not the car.

I'm not sure if it is or not to be honest

If you have a second key try it out and see if you still have the same problem. I had a work truck that had a similar problem, it stopped recognizing the key one day so it would start but then shut off after a few seconds. Had to get a new key from the dealer and problem was solved.

I'll give that a go. Should I avoid the remote start then as well?

Not 100% sure but I don't think it would matter if it turns out to be key related.

Does it start on the remote then shut down as soon as you put the key in? If yes try the other key. It is possible the chip in the key is failing. Also I think the dealer can test the key. Or it might be just the fob.

My truck is a 2008 and it would not start and said service anti theft system. I disconnected the batter then touched the positive and negative wires together to totally drain and reset the computer. This may help

Yeah I'm thinking its something else as this other key is doing it too.. I may go to radioshack an pick up some resistors and give that fix a try. I'm just confused it says to connect the wires from the bcm to the resistor and then tape off/insulate the wires going to the ignition. Won't that stop the ignition from getting power or are those just the wires from the bcm? Other then that it doesnt look too mind boggling.

One thing to be aware of is if you have a stock deck that has the theft lock security system, once you disconnect it, you will have to reset it.

Here is a youtube video on it

Thanks man this seems like its going to cause a headache but with going to school again soon can't really justify spending $100's at a mechanics if its something I can fix myself. Why would GM make such a stupid system-better yet if they knew there was an issue why wouldnt they simply do a recall to have it fixed? I know chrysler did that 2 years ago for a faulty control arm on liberty's. Oh well

Well Brad if your watching. I got the balls and tried the resistor fix...

I'll be jiggered. Worked like a hot damn. Checked for codes after and clean and clear, security is unlocked and it took about 1/2 hour and $3~

Problem solved
