View Full Version : Red Dragon acro frag not happy

Got a red dragon acro frag about a month ago, and placed in down a bit in my tank, where the light should not be as strong. But it seems to have bleached a bit on the top side where it is exposed to the light. And has not shown much if any growth yet either. Doesn't seem to be dying though, just not very happy.

The frag came from T5 lights and I have Radion LED lights, and I know they can be harsh on new frags. It was quite red all over when I got it, but quite bleached now, although still some red on its underside.

I have read they do not like a lot of light. So am thinking of moving it to another location which is even deeper and partially shaded. Is this what it needs to get happy and colour up again? Or should I just give it more time at its current location?

I would move it to a space with less light. Fading color = too much light in case of red dragon. Once settled, it will grow like crazy. I can see white growth tips all over mine after it was saved from RTN few weeks ago

My tank does have a lot of flow, but it is a bit sheltered where it is now. However, the spot I am thinking of moving it to, would be even more sheltered from flow. And partial shade, although hoping not too little light there. After all it is an acro.

Well, that seems to be contrary to what others say, and I have read. There is no sign of rtn or stn with mine, just not doing much and lost colour.

How long have you had yours?

This is after I fragged almost 3/4" of it to save it from rtn.

You said you placed it higher for more light. This pic looks like it is on the bottom?

Are your Radions gen1 or 2, and what % are you running them at? Mine are gen2's running at 100%, but 60 ft depth setting.

Yeah, that's a lot less light than mine.

I think I will move it to the new spot. It is definitely bleached a bit, so obviously not happy where it is now.

Also from the pictures, it looks like the light is running more blue than white and hence the higher up placement. Deepwaters love blue light.

Ya,try moving it to a place with less light.i have a purple dragon that I got the same time as the red dragon.it's still on the sand bed since day one and it's still bleached.
