Hey guys and gals, I'm just in the middle of finishing off my room now and was just wondering if anyone had experience with this.

I'm just getting ready to install the trim but am having a hard time trying to figure out the color scheme. The floors are tiled and dark slate grey and the walls are this sandy golden yellow color with highlights (one of those textured finishes).

The room gets a lot of sunlight from a large window. I haven't painted the door yet. Furniture will be a combination of a light beige and black.

I have one friend telling me that the trim should be lighter then the floor but darker then the walls. Anyone else have any input on this?

Albert - that could be a nice colour scheme. I dunno if there is any hard and fast rules tho.

My aunt and uncle have a very nice house, and their dining room is a bunch of dark, almost chocolate colours but the trim is a lighter cream. Looks very cool.

Sorry, I am a guy and dont know my colours very well. :)

Heh, I'd send a pic, but as of now, it's in really rough shape (tools, mortar and paint buckets all over the place) so it would be really hard to get an idea on what the room really looks like.

Anyway, chocolate colors... Why didn't I think of that? Bloody, too bad I already spent all the money on my current color.

Actually, that'd be really cool to see! Not that I can afford the luxury to do so with this room though :frown:

I'd go with white trim and doors. Will be a nice contrast between the floors and the walls.

We have stone-washed demin blue ceramic tile throughout our condo, sort of butter yellow walls in all rooms, and white trim and doors. Looks great.

Hey Beverly, you wouldn't happen to have a pic would you? I would really like to see the contrast. Thanks for the advice!

Albert,

Will try to get a better pic of the colour scheme later. For now, here's what it looked like last Christmas. Used a flash for the pic. Colour of the walls look most like the colour in the shadow:
