This morning I was watching the Reef while having my coffee ... only to see a dottyback with a cleaner shrimp pinned into the corner. The fish was harassing him and I didn't think much of it. Then all of a sudden a huge lunge, grabs the shrimp by the belly and drags him around the tank finally tearing out a huge section of flesh.

The shrimp survived for only a few minutes as the dottyback destroyed him. And then he started chasing others without even eating the one he just killed.

I've got a large tank and it would have been impossible to net him. I built a trap out of a gatorade bottle and caught him in about 30 minutes and now he's in the sump.

I've heard they can pester ornamental shrimp and even eat smaller ones ... but these are full grown cleaner shrimp almost twice his size

I guess I'll have to take him to the LFS next time I head down to Winnipeg

Dottybacks are beautiful but often nasty. Not surprised it went "rogue".

Your lucky you were able to catch it. Mines a total dick. They're just as evil as 6line wrasses IMO
